The Phils won again during our Monday off-day, with the only consolation being that they beat the Reds who are currently our closest pursuer.

Cincy's Andrew Abbott, who skunked us last time we faced him, had a three hit shutout going with 2 outs in the 8th.

10 pitches later it was 4-1 Phils

The Yanx won on Monday too but with an asterisk because it's Minnesota. Twins are now 13-34 since 2017 vs NYY. And that .277 win pct doesn't even include

the post-season where the Twinkies are 2 - 16 vs the Yanx and 4 - 28!! overall in post-season games since their 1991 WS championship.

You could bring up a AAA roster, put them in the playoffs and likely not do worse than 4-28. Nor would last year's White Sox go 4-28 (.125) even if playing

only top-level teams.

And with five more games scheduled against the Twins, I believe the Yanx have already clinched a playoff spot despite sitting just 1.0 G up in the 3rd WC slot.

Weekend stuff

- Padres @ Dodgers for three

Don't look now but the Pads are in 1st place by a game while the Dodgers are a NYM-esque 15-21 since July 1st and are coming off a sweep at the hands of the Angels!!

Yanx @ StL

And, yeah, the Cards are in the WC chase so on our tails to one degree or another so I should be rooting for them to lose these games ... but I can't.

Besides, the Yanx are only 1/2 G in front of Cleveland for the 3rd WC slot just as we are in front of that other Ohio team

- speaking of Cleveland, they'll be hosting the Braves.

Ronald Acuna re-activated

- Phils & Nats have three games remaining on their four-game set after the Nats won Thursday's opener

Washington won, so Mets pull to 5 games back.

Wheeler was put on the IL with a blood clot in his upper right arm.

Cincy, at home, leading Milwaukee 2-1 in top 9th

But they were leading 8-1 last night and lost going away so nothing in the bag yet, especially as the Brewers are going for their 14th straight win.

And the Brews have the first tow on w/[CROSSOUT]no outs[/CROSSOUT] ... now one out.

And the Brewers score the tying run on an error!!!!

Down 1-0 going to the 9th, the Brewers get a 2R-HR by Willian Contreras to take a 2-1 lead.

But the Reds score in the bottom half to tie it, then win it in B-10 after the Brews failed to score in the top half.

And so the Milwaukee winning streak ends at 14

Yanx about to wrap up their sweep of StL (8 - 4, bottom 9)

I'd like to see a better angle to check whether part of the ball touched the ground when he was rolling over. His thigh hid it for a second. If so, it would be a no catch, like in football.

I thought it almost certainly had to have touched the ground as he rolled, based on how the ball is exposed, but in slow motion, it seems to remain balanced on the inside of his left leg as his right leg closed on it.

The question to me was whether it was pinned between his legs (control) before it touched the ground, or whether the ground forced it in there. I thought not, but on further viewing, if I am in the replay booth in Chelsea, I have to give it to him.
