You've certainly heard the name: he was the Mets team physician from 1991 - 2001, their medical director from 2005 - 2024, and a longtime member of the Hospital for Special Surgery and its long connection to NYM.

He estimated last year that he had performed some 2,400 Tommy John surgeries* since his first one in 1993 and was partly responsible for updating and stream lining the original procedure that was invented by Frank Jobe.





* Good lord that's ~75/year or 6 - 7 per month for three+ decades
