Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 Before the Mets celebrated base hits by miming a shutter swinging in the wind, and before they celebrated them by pantomiming negative fans thumbs-downing them, they celebrated it by flashing Joey's grip on his trademark churveball. Before he was the guy you called up to pitch the last game so everybody else could get some needed rest, he was, somehow, the center of something. For a few glorious moments in time, it was all about the churve.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 Despite shattering “Memories” protocol by acknowledging a Met as a former Met before he signs elsewhere, I'll add that “churve” emerged as my least favorite baseball word of 2021. I didn't care for “sweeper” in 2023, either, but it didn't land as harshly on the ears.Joey the Churve soaking up the last start of 2024 as the Mets waited to pop champagne will always be appreciated.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 I always felt that if the kept him in the rotation he would have been a decent fifth starter.Later
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 Should've been given a real shot at the rotation. Mets squandered his abilities. Now he's a 31-year-old who's pitched 95 1/3 innings over the past four seasons. His career was wasted being in their system.
