Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2023 Author Posted October 25, 2023 That was one of only eight tie games in Mets history.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Not a lot of productivity out of the nine-hole that game. After Gardner went oh-for-five with four strikeouts, both Jimmie Schaffer and Ed Kranepool struck out as pinch-hitters in that spot.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 He threw those zeros against a pretty good lineup that included righties Dick Allen, Dick Stuart, Alex Jonson and (a young)Adolfo Phillips.A memorable game.RIPLater

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 I've always remembered the Al Jackson game (he's still my all-time favorite Met)and had forgotten the Gardner game until Rob passed away and it showed up in the obits.Your line that Dick Young wrote that Rob Gardner was one of the young Mets who made Al Jackson expendable was something I hadn't remembered.RIP RobLater
