As soon as the ball left the bat, an intuitive grasp of Shea's dimensions and the prevailing weather patterns and time of year consumed me, and I knew in an instant that (a) that ball was going over the wall, ( it was nonetheless within reach of a pullback, © it would take a superlative pullback from a player capable of making an NBA leap and pulling it back from two to two and a half feet beyond the fence because that's where it was it was going, and (d) Chavez may well be that guy, and maybe the only guy, for the moment.It's like I knew instantly, within inches, exactly where that ball was coming down, and that I could well be about to see something historically remarkable.
