roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Where do you come down on this question, whether Max's recent disastrous outings are due to him having some undisclosed (oblique?) injury or just bad luck cropping up at the worst possible moment? If he is hurting, but won't own up to it, for whatever reasons, what do you do if you are Buck, assuming of course that the Mets advance from the SD series? Do you pull him at an early sign that he doesn't have it? A very early sign? Or do you treat him like your sureshot HOF starter and ride him longer than you'd ride any other horse?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 It's not like he hasn't had a penchant for HRs before. We here would gleefully revel In it when he was in opposing colors.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I don't think _Max_ is hiding anything from the Mets. Them all hiding it from us? Probably. The Mets have been pretty mum about injuries, and pretty poor about managing them, this year, recently, in general. Obliques are one of those things that linger, and it's possible the Mets rushed him back. I mean, they rushed James McCann back, and it's freaking James McCann. Friday was probably an aberration though. wind blowing out (and who knows what MLB did to the balls). Maybe he's not at peak Scherzer, but I'm still confident the next time he pitches. I think Scherzer takes his Toradol/shots and toughs it out. If they win tonight, bring him back on short rest so he can pitch twice.
vtmet7 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 is a hurt Max still better than the alternative? likely yes...as Marte said, everyone is playing with pain this time of year

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I think he's sore.I also don't think his two most recent outings were disastrous.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I'm not a psychologist, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.Max is still stinging from not being able to go for the Dodgers when they really needed him last year. I think he's still hurting from the oblique but is damned if he's not going to pitch. Therefore, he's going out there compromised. He and Buck really need to have a heart-to-heart if they make it to the next round. They showed Max wincing as he was warming up before the game. So he decided to gut it out, with sub-par results.DeGrom is not 100% either, as he's apparently having trouble with his control. My .02, your mileage may vary.

Season's on the line here, and I can't take a risk if you're getting banged around. But if you're good to go, and there aren't physical issues to be concerned about, I'm going to keep you out there as long as possible. Which is it?"
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I don't want to make too much of this, but aren't you off the bandwagon anyhow?
