Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Should McNeil and or Nimmo need some time off, they needn't necessarily be placed on the injured list. The Mets can demote Vientos to add a guy if they want to be keep their options open on those two, but would rather have a lefty bat or a more experienced outfielder.. It's possible they could DFA Ruffage or Gore also.1) They can use Escobar in the outfield as well, though he hasn't played there this season. Maybe Baty becomes magically healthy by tomorrow and he can play third and Escobar left.2) Khalil Lee can play center, bats left, and has had a pretty rotten year.3) Dom Smith bats lefty, has a shit-ton of experience, has beaucoups Metly bona fides, but doesn't fit in anywhere. Buck didn't seem interested in seeing him faking it in the outfield earlier in the season, and it's not like he's going to DH and force Vogelbach to find a glove.4) Daniel Palka bats lefty, hits for power, has plenty of big league experience, and has had a strong year at AAA. He also isn't on the roster, and would be limited to corners.5) Maybe Marte becomes magically healthy by tomorrow. Probably more likely than Baty, anyhow.6) The craziest idea, but not necessarily the worst — call up Francisco Álvarez, make him your DH against lefties, and work Ruf into the outfield mix.7) Travis Jankowski! He's still in the system!Or, maybe McNeil and Nimmo are fine by tomorrow. Anyhow, Jankowski, Álvarez, and Smitty are all in the Syracuse lineup tonight.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 I they have to go outside the 40 man for an outfielder, what about switch hitting Jake Mangum? He has been torrid (.342) at AAA since his return from the IL and can play center. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=mangum000jakhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=mangum000jakLater
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 I'm guessing that Brandon sits on Friday as the Mets face a LHP (McNeil could sit, too). I'd like to see Mangum have a chance as he is a good fielder and, as MFS62 said, is swinging a hot bat but I wonder if Buck wants to bring in a newbie this late in the season. Palka has done so well and hasn't gotten the call so I have a feeling that they don't think too much of him. Regardless, I think you're right, a reinforcement will be in Oakland (in Vientos' spot) on Friday.
