Did a decent job as a utility infielder in 1980, but got buried behind Bill Almon, who was probably worse offensively and defensively but had the pedigree of being a former #1 overall draft pick.

Jose Moreno, No. 4.

Mario Ramirez, No. 3.

A couple of bites of playing time for both when the Mets were beset by injuries in August of 1980, as the Magic that had been Back was in full retreat. Still, I see them both, No. 4 and No. 3, doing what they could without the otherworldly aura that had surrounded the franchise for a few precious months. Now they're both gone. Sorry to hear about Jose.

The article probably loses something in translation, but it's true that when I think of Jose Moreno I think of all of his pushed, scored, and robbed races.

José –Mackey — Moreno, the only player in the history of Dominican winter baseball with a 30-30-30 campaign in pushed, scored and robbed races, died Friday night at the General Plaza de la Salud Hospital at age 61 years old

From Baseball Happenings, run by Nick Diunte, a writer who keeps tabs on MLB alumni:

He is the only player in the history of the Dominican Winter League to achieve a 30-30-30 season (RBIs, runs scored, and stolen bases). He played 14 seasons in the Dominican from 1974-75 through 1989-90 that included three championships with Escogido.

Nick notes Moreno's shining moment was a pinch-homer that became part of an 18-inning loss to the Padres I'm still a little sore about.
