Guest 41Forever Guests Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Have to go with the SI cover. I like the focus, and the reflection in the batting helmet.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Man, though, it's tough recalling his attempts at little pubic mustaches that never really worked. He should have gone for some cheek-slashing, Eddie Murray-type, pointed biker sideburns.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 These covers hit the newstands within a coupl'a weeks of each other. More than anything else, this derby is reminding me of just what a humongous big deal Darryl Strawberry was from about the end of his minor league stint through his sophomore season. No. Actually, since his High School senior year.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 And speaking of covers, this is the magazine and article that put Darryl Strawberry on the National map.https://www.sicovers.com/content/images/thumbs/0003060_keith-hernandez-of-the-cardinals.jpeg>https://www.si.com/vault/1980/04/07/824536/next-pick-strawberryhttps://www.si.com/vault/1980/04/07/824536/next-pick-strawberry
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Both felt too soon (though he was the reigning NL Rookie of the Year, if one can be said to reign as the winner of something you can't win again), but it was a thrill having a guy rushed onto national periodical covers. The SI one is classier. The TSN one suggests eastbound and westbound traffic coming in and out of Darryl's nostrils.
