My money is on Conforto. I think he came back too early last year, and will have a big bounce back this season.

I guess I could have included Jeurys Familia (longish, if interrupted, tenure, established starrish qualities) and maybe even T.J. Rivera (if he makes the everyday lineup, he starts cashing in homeboy points!).



But the likelihood of either of those occurrences seems south of Machado, so ... no. Though if you put their qualifications together, you get something like John Franco.

Future Hall of Fame candidate and ostensible New York legend Robinson Cano not projected to take Flushing by storm, apparently.

I guess he should be on the ballot, but it's hard to achieve full faciness without an in-univorm track record. On the other hand, like (say) Hodges and Throneberry, he touches down with a crosstown track record, so the fan familiarity curve is shortened.



He's got pretty good English although doesn't really have much to say. Got a PED suspension, which limits the milk endorsements.

Peter Alonso, especially if we're talking first half.

He's going to explode on the scene with a flurry of long home runs and big hits. Maybe one (I hope not) SI cover.

He might cool off as pitchers learn more about him, but I think that first half is going to be a doozy.
