Memories of Plawecki

He and d'Arnaud were BFF's, which was nice, but sometimes I wonder if the only ways a catcher can get the respect behind the dish that a team can use is to either hit like an all-star or be a real red ass, a la Grote/Munson.

If my math is correct, Travis was best man at Chase's wedding, but Plawecki was best dude at Travis'. Kevin must be a heckuva dude.

Yes he and dArnaud were probably too friendly -- they kept going on double dates and stuff. You figure at some level that carried over to maybe, not being so aggressive when they ought to have been with other teammates like pitchers.

I guess what I'll remember about Plawecki was how dArnaud's injury thrust him probably way too soon into the role of starting MLB catcher. It might have looked at first like a great opportunity but come August you realize the guy's one of the worst everyday hitters in the league and still learning how to be good defensively.

He might be a different guy if darnaud doesn't get hurt that first season.

On an episode of M*A*S*H, Hawkeye suffered back pain attributable to reading about the success back home of another doctor, the "incredibly average" Vernon Parsons. At his best, Kevin Plawecki was incredibly average. He was rarely at his best.

I was at a work party that included legislators, and started making small talk with one of the husbands of a state representative. The topic quickly turned to baseball, and it turned out that Kevin was a cousin of the Rep.'s husband. Kevin is, according to family, a very nice guy and they were pulling for him. It was a pleasant way to pass time at the party.

This was the husband of Rep. Julie, who was very nice and an effective legislator.
