It looks like Jim Riggleman has some sort of an inside track, but I put together a list of other names anyway.

All of these have managed in the NL semi-recently (that seems to be the requirement). . .

Fredi Gonzalez (currently Marlins 3rd base coach)
Pete Mackanin
Ryne Sandberg
Matt Williams (currently A's 3rd base coach)
Dale Sveum
Mike Matheny
Walt Weiss

This seems like a recent narrative with the media that Callaways first year was hurt by not having an NL vet on the bench with him. I don’t recall hearing that at all during the season...did I miss it?

Never heard it once personally.

My money is on Riggleman

Former NL managers among the Mets' candidates for bench coach, sources say

Sources said among those the Mets have interviewed for the opening are former Marlins and Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, who is currently the Marlins’ third-base coach, Jim Riggleman, a former manager of five teams, including four NL teams, former Reds manager Bryan Price, and Tony DeFrancesco, the Mets’ Triple-A manager.

You've got to be well thought of to be hired as a MLB manager 5 different times, though I associate losing clubs as Jim Riggleman's main employers. And there was that weird sudden departure from the Nationals that's never really been explained I don't think

DeFrancesco has to be a courtesy interview, right? I thought that BVW wanted a guy who has actually managed in the National League specifically.

If he was up for the manager's job I would take all of that into consideration. None of it bothers me for the bench coach job.
