It's been all hugs for Jeurys Familia after he was held out of the Subway Series opener. Stay up late and listen for news of a possible new destination for the burly reliever! Maybe others! And possible brand new Mets coming the other way!

Nothing is imminent but bet on him moving well before deadline. [u:11bb6yuz]7-8 teams have shown varying degrees of interest[/u:11bb6yuz], plenty of scouts to see him tonight

I'm here in the lower ring of famed Madison Square Garden!Rumors are rumors, but one thing that seems to put the A's on the insidetrack is the news tonight that they've released veteran righthander SantiagoCasilla. Casilla had an ERA of just 3.16 this season, but his walks have been up and the A's have been using him with decreasing frequency.Santiago has spent his entire 15-year career pitching for Bay Area teams, has a fistful of rings from his days in San Francisco, and owns a 0.92post-season ERA over the course of a not-insignificant total of 19 2/3innings. So the move has struck many in baseball as surprisingly decisive by Billy Beane, who will have to eat the remainder of Casilla's $6 million salary. All the executives I've talked to say there's another shoe ready to dropin Oakland. Met fans tonight are wondering if that shoe is big andDomincan, and how Oakland TV announcers Glen Kuiper and Ray Fossemight add to the many ways "Jeurys" can be pronounced! The night is young and there's more to come! Keep it right here!
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 I hate this. Really like Familia. Hope we can resign him in the winter.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 No trade announcement yet. It must have been a sleepless night for Familia. I'm sure that Rosenthal and Olney were up all night trying to get the scoop. If it is Oakland, then Sandy is already there for an A's reunion this weekend. BTW, Jeff McNeil didn't play for the 51s last night so maybe he's on the way to New York. Two resources for A's prospects information:https://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/oakland-athletics-top-10-prospects-updated/http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018?list=oak

I hate that it's necessary. As far as the offseason goes, he's one of several closers I would consider. He's more defense-dependent than most closers (especially infield defense), and the Mets' ability to improve there would affect how much I value him.As for prospects -- their top 3 are really good. I'd love to get Jesus Luzardo, but that is probably wishful thinking. AJ Puk is recovering from TJS, but I could live with that if the A's can't. Sean Murphy is a very nice catching prospect. I don't know if a rental could get us one of them, though.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 No trade yet, also no uniform in Familia's locker. He's still on roster but won't be available. Mets have a mystery pitcher ready to step in should a deal be consummated by gametime, but Callaway, who is on top of everything in this organization, says that isn't likely.
Guest cooby Guests Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 THis is just wrong. If he's not traded, it's a wasted weekend and also a lot of stress for him. Plus a mystery pitcher? That's always nice. And I would think highly illegal by league rules. But what do I know
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 They have a guy staying at the Stadium Motor Lodge, he's in uniform, he has the Uber app and he's ready to go.

For example, they flew Nido up to Toronto on July 4 when they weren't sure if Mesoraco had sustained a concussion. Mesoraco was cleared to play and Nido was sent back to the minors without having been activated.

But I'll tell you what I told that homicidal maniac Conor McGregor: NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS! I'm not here to flirt. I'm a woman just trying to do her job!!And in such a role, I've been trying to get the skinny on which players may or may not be coming the other way, but nobody's talking. And that's their prerogative of course, but Billy Beane didn't have to go and call me "fake news." That's just wrong.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 By all means don't get anyone who could help you next year. [tweet:359hqj32]https://twitter.com/martinonyc/status/1020740681185353728[/tweet:359hqj32]

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 (edited) Welcome Will Toffey: https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa829401&position=3B#7 on the Fangraphs list I cited earlier.7. Will Toffey | 3B | A+ —> Toffey got off to a strong start in April but missed over a month with an injury before returning to action at the end of May. He hasn’t looked right since and his numbers have suffered. When he’s going well, he controls the strike zone, hits line drives and gets on base at an above-average clip. He has a chance to be a solid regular at third base. And welcome non-top prospect Bobby Wahl, RHP, who is currently in AAA:https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wahlbo01.shtml65 K's in 39.2 IP.Finally, welcome international slot money. And the A's take on all of Familia's salary so the trade is a big win for the Wilpons. HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 I'm sure Mets twitter and Mets Facebook will be totally rational about this move.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Oakland picks up all of Familia salary. Which can explain why they got crap back in return. Really. Nothing ever changes with this club.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 So far 2018 is turning out a lot like 2017. But hey. But here’s to hoping 2019 will be different while we go about doing the same exact thing.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 These are the saddest of possible words:Toffey and Wahl and slotA pair of A's and a couple of bucksToffey and Wahl and slotExchanging our closer from all those winsNot that Jeurys was devoid of sinsBut memories will elicit grinsToffey and Wahl and slot
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Do we know for sure which of the three-headed monster pulled the trigger on this one? The sweetener of the international slot money seems Omar-ish.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Mets trade checklist:A minor league middle reliever--CHECKA mid-level prospect who is not ready for the majors--CHECKInternational slot money that fans don't care about or can keep track of but it sounds important--CHECKSalary relief--CHECK, CHECK, DEFINITELY CHECK.This deal hits all the boxes! Well done Tri-GMs!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Scuttlebutt suggests the objective of this deal is getting the million bucks in international draft $$ that might allow the Mets to sign Cuban uber prospect Victor Victor Mesa. Because Cubans face a different route to international draft hes not yet been declared eligible even though he is considered the best prospect in this class. Most clubs have already spent their $$, so this could be a brilliant move.Or not.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Victor Victor.... that's what he goes by ... would have been considered a top-10 pick were he in the draft. 21 year old CF who can play at AA now
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 The cynic in me thinks that the Mets are more likely to get Julie Andrews than Victor Victor(ia) because they never get the best guy but it's something to hope for. Thank you JCL. Pete McCarthy is talking about him, too.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote:Victor Victor.... that's what he goes bySeeing as how the Mets have rarely been victors twice in a row since April, this would be a step up.
