In the entire history of Mets yearbooks, only two covers have featured Mr. Met, and fate has those two covers facing off against each other.

I went with the Bicentennial version.

Not a big fan of either, but I prefer the more dynamic drawing in 1976. I actually have that yearbook, even though I never got close to Shea Stadium that year. I think that was when I hosted a sports call-in show.

Gotta love 1976 for devoting a small-but-meaningful portion of the cover to letting us know Shea Stadium's zip code.

You haven't fully identified the Mets as the Mets until you list that zip code.

"Are we almost done trying on outfits?"
"I've got a couple more. What do you think of this one?"
"Kind of plain. A little heavy on the orange. I mean orange bill, orange outline, and makes you look...I dunno...chesty."
"OK, what about this one?"
"That's a very kicky hat. I like the number on the front. I know exactly when you got it. You seem ready for anything in it."
"So which one?"
"The second one. Definitely the second one."

I love the '63 and that it's the end of their short-lived tenancy. But really,
how can I vote against '76?
