Gerson ... of Interest

Posted

I was just over at the Bingo site. Gerson has five innings, no runs allowed on two hits, no walks, and a hit batsman. Has struck out 11.

That's not a lot of a track record but it's sort of show that makes a team think about leapfrogging you over AAA. Gerson was one of the three pitchers acquired for Addison Reed. Has been clocked at over 100 MPH, but came over with a reputation for wildness — a reputation that he has gone a long way toward shedding in his brief time with the Mets.

Wait, who?

Oh, This Guy

Ummmm, never heard of him.
OK, I probably did, but have no recollection of the name. He was the 'high-ceiling' guy in the Addison Reed deal.
Turns 23 next month, great H/IP ratio during his minor league life [213 IP/ 164 H] but, as mentioned, then there are the walks: 92 to go with 193 K

Has pitched Five innings in Bingo this season which brings his career total of innings pitched above the A-Ball level up to Five

Did Robles quick-pitch that HR last night and thereby tick off mgmt?

Yes he popped everyone's eyes in Spring Training. Throws 100, tall and very skinny, fresh 'do

"Ceetar":
fresh arm -- no more or less fresh than anyone else's after two weeks of the season
they're a good 5 IP -- well, there's that I suppose
he's close -- close to what ... close to ML ready after his 4.22 ERA / 1.59 WHIP of a season in A-ball?

Look, I'm not putting down the move. Like I said, I have no opinion of the guy.
But at the same time let's not mentally 'grass-is-greener' him into a reliable reliever based on 3 April outings in 40 degree weather.
It's likely just a short-term thing anyway. Be cool if he were to pitch well enough to make them keep him up.

I think he hasn't pitched in a few days, so fresh in the sense of 'rested'. And close as in "Binghamton is right there and Vegas isn't"
