Sheesh Mets. Watch out.

Al's biggest MLB moment was making a gave-saving catch while leaping over the bullpen wall, snagging a drive off the bat of Dick Williams. He fell into the bullpen and out of view, before emerging holding up the ball.

I'd suspect he might not have actually held on to it, but stuffed it into his glove before standing back up (there were only 6,000 patrons to witness), but it looks like he landed in the Sox bullpen. They would have called him on that. But no video exists of the play.

The 1966 Mets elevated themselves into ninth place, the first time they escaped the cellar. Thank you, Al, for your part in at last putting somebody behind us.

Before he came to the Mets, I always confused him with Al Spangler and thought both of them would one day be Mets.
RIP, Al.
