Sean Reid-Foley found a new home in the Diamondbacks chain. Billy McKinney found a new home in the Rangers chain. Not sure if it was noted here, but Jose Urena was signed away by the Blue Jays. Mets signed a youngster named Anderson Ozuna.
-
Sean Reid-Foley is a vestige of a bygone era. They had had him since 2021, having acquired him for Steven Matz. So SRF was a connection to the "Big 5" era of DeGrom, Syndergaard, Harvey, Wheeler and Matz, who are all now fading memories.* *DeGrom last pitched for the Mets in 2022, Syndergaard in 2021, Matz in 2020, Wheeler in 2019 and Harvey in 2018 (almost a decade ago!). Both Syndergaard and Harvey are out of pro ball. SRF was one of those guys you kept rooting for to finally get a real shot. Kind of like Tommy Hunter. Well, Hunter stunk when he finally got his chance, but SRF dominated. But the gods of baseball are cruel, so of course during his breakout season he gets hurt and that was it for his Mets (big league) career.
-
Ooops, wrong thread.
-
I remember when he hit .385 through his first four games (13 ABs) with the Mets.
-
The Mets magic number is down to 103! Team ERA is still just 2.88. They can play barely .500 ball the rest of the way to still be a 90 win team.
-
I assume you mean Geremi Gonzalez (who was #32), which is correct! Another hint for this guy: https://i.imgur.com/euVrEFnm.png> This player, a Dominican-born pitcher, was originally signed as an international amateur free agent by the New York Mets on October 21, 2016. After making his professional debut in 2017, he progressed through the Mets' minor league system, showing promise with a solid strikeout rate and strong performances across various levels. In 2020, he was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the Rule 5 Draft, but after an elbow injury and Tommy John surgery, he missed the entire 2021 season. The Giants returned him to the Mets in 2021, and he returned to pitching in 2022. He split his time between the Mets' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, consistently improving his performance. In 2024, he made his MLB debut with the Mets, pitching two innings in relief against the Atlanta Braves. He faced some injury setbacks during his rookie season, including a forearm strain that sidelined him briefly, but he bounced back to post a 2.31 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 35 innings. Despite his success in the majors, this player was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse for the start of the 2025 season.

His stay was short but sweet.

Paul Blackburn: Blackburn (knee) is expected to come off the 15-day injured list to start against the Dodgers on Monday, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. Blackburn is in the final stages of his recovery from right knee inflammation, which caused him to land on the 15-day IL at the start of the season. He's posted a 3.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB across 29.1 minor-league innings during his rehab assignment. It's unclear whether Blackburn will have a consistent role in the Mets' rotation after Monday's start. Injury Knee. Est. Return 6/2/2025. Sean Manaea: Manaea (oblique) will face hitters again before beginning a rehab assignment in early June, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The lefty threw 20 pitches during a live batting practice session Thursday and another 15 pitches in the bullpen. Manaea has been sidelined since reporting to spring training, so he will need a lengthy rehab assignment before joining the big-league rotation. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 7/4/2025. Frankie Montas: Montas (lat) is scheduled to make a rehab start with High-A Brooklyn on Thursday, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports. The right-hander covered 1.1 frames in his first rehab start with Brooklyn over the weekend, and he's set to build up to 30-to-35 pitches Thursday. Montas has been sidelined since mid-February due to the lat strain, so he'll likely require at least a couple more rehab outings after Thursday before making his 2025 debut for the Mets. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/13/2025.

Big news! Mets appointed Lewis Sherr president of baseball operations. They also signed David Villar, who's been in the big leagues for four years yet somehow evaded my radar this whole time. Jose Azocar elected free agency and was quickly scooped up by the Braves. I have a feeling this is going to be like Adeiny Hechavarria—in 2019 Hechavarria hit .204 with the Mets, who released him partway through the year, then he went on to hit .328 for Atlanta the rest of the way. Genesis Cabrera also elected free agency and he was quickly scooped up by the Cubs.

And now it's 1-0 Rockies! The Mets are on track to never score again! (are we still doing that?)
-
The score should be 12-0 Mets by now.

Dicky is correct! I thought he was going to be awesome, too. For a while in 2001, he was lights out. Hint: https://i.imgur.com/U1mHz4f.png> Here's another hint for this guy: This player was a Venezuelan right-handed pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1997 to 2006. He debuted with the Chicago Cubs, where he quickly gained attention during his rookie season by leading the team with 11 wins and earning ninth place in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. Though he showed early promise, injuries—particularly recurring knee issues—derailed much of his career. After missing several seasons due to surgery and setbacks, this player made a strong return with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2003. Despite a losing record, he was considered the team's most reliable pitcher and was awarded the "Out of Nowhere Award." He went on to pitch for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and Milwaukee Brewers, though his performance varied and was often limited by injury. In total, this player compiled a 30–35 record, a 4.93 ERA, and 354 strikeouts across 131 MLB appearances. Notably, he was the only pitcher among more than 580 who faced Barry Bonds six or more times to never allow Bonds to reach base. He later played briefly in Japan for the Yomiuri Giants in 2007 and had stints in winter leagues. Tragically, his life was cut short in 2008 when he was struck by lightning on a beach near his hometown of Maracaibo, Venezuela. He was 33 years old.

Drafted three times, he eventually signed with the Orioles in 1992 after being selected in the fifth round. He made his MLB debut in 1994 with a win over the Detroit Tigers and had his most active stretch with the Twins between 1995 and 1996. In 1997, he joined the Reds organization, briefly returning to the majors in 1998. Afterward, he pitched in the Pirates’ and Reds’ Triple-A systems before retiring. Paul Blackburn: Blackburn (knee) is expected to make one more rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse before making his season debut for the Mets the following Monday against the Dodgers, Tim Britton of the Athletic reports. The 31-year-old right-hander has been sharp over three starts for Syracuse, posting a 2.63 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB through 13.2 innings, but the Mets have delayed activating Blackburn from the IL until they had a need in the rotation. That need arrives this weekend, when the team plays 10 straight games without an off day beginning May 30. It's not clear if New York will stick with a six-man rotation after that stretch, or if Blackburn will then shift into a long relief role. Injury Knee. Est. Return 6/3/2025. Sean Manaea: Manaea (oblique) will throw live batting practice Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Manaea will face hitters for the first time since being placed on the 15-day injured list Feb. 24 due to a strained left oblique. The next step in his recovery will be a rehab assignment, though he may throw multiple live sessions before heading out. While he'll likely need several rehab appearances before being activated, Manaea is on track to make his 2025 MLB in early July. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 7/4/2025. Frankie Montas: Montas (lat) said Friday he's beginning a rehab assignment at High-A Brooklyn and will make a start Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Montas suffered a high-grade right lat strain in February and faced hitters for the first time May 16. He's now been cleared to begin what's expected to be a somewhat lengthy rehab assignment. Per Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record, Montas will throw 30-to-35 pitches Saturday. The 32-year-old logged a 4.84 ERA across 150.2 regular-season innings in 2024. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/23/2025. Rafael Ortega: Injury Undisclosed. Est. Return 5/30/2025. Jose Siri: Siri (tibia) is scheduled to hit live batting practice against Sean Manaea on Thursday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Siri is recovering from a fractured left tibia and has been ahead of schedule in his rehab. Per Albanese, Siri is still limited to running in a straight line, but he's set to hit live pitching for the first time since sustaining the injury. He's on track to return in early to mid-June. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 6/7/2025.

Hint: https://i.imgur.com/zPeT5YB.png> That guy was such a short-lived Met, it was very difficult finding an image of him in a Mets uniform. Also, the UMDB doesn't have a picture of the guy, so if you need one ... there you go.
-
They also sent Genesis Cabrera down so Brandon can Waddell his way up from Syracuse. Frankie Montas was sent on a rehab assignment to Syracuse.
-
The Mets magic number is down to 112. Team ERA: Still just 2.85.
-
That actually sucks. The Mets give him try after try, he finally is on pace for his breakout in 2024, then he gets hurt. Upon recovery, he tanks in Triple-A and away he goes. Last year he was one of those 'feel good stories' and now he's gone.
