Six hits in a game, David Wright and Rodney McCray are correct. Wanna give a shot at the year? Future Mets Pedro Martinez, Mike Piazza and Jeff Kent all debuted that year.

New day, new hints added above.

Looks like Joe Joe Rodriguez, who played in the Mets system in 2022 and 2023, has been signed by the independent Lancaster Stormers.

Olerud and game-winning home run are correct. I imagine you meant Chico Walker for #1, but that is incorrect. Walker was first drafted in 1976, while the correct answer was first drafted in 1982—he was drafted five times. A couple new questions have been added: 1. To my knowledge, there has only been ONE Mets player to have his only official Mets at bat be a game ending hit (and obviously if it was a game ending hit, it was a game winning hit). Who did it, and what year was it? Hint: Spent only one year with New York. Eddie Murray debuted for the Mets that year. Hint: Was mostly a pinch runner and defensive replacement, appearing in 18 games but having just one AB for the club. "End of the Road" was a #1 hit this year. Hint: His other major league team was the White Sox, with whom he played in 1990 and 1991. The year was Gary Carter's final season. Hint: Once ran through a wall. Hint: https://i.imgur.com/Fe0DYTG.png> --originally posted by "m8644" 2. What was the weight of the apple at Shea? Hint: R.A. Dickey's winning percentage with the Mets was the same as the weight of the apple (remove the decimal point). Hint: Take Keith Hernandez's number, multiply it by John Maine's number and add Max Scherzer's number. Hint: Take Tom Seaver's number, multiply it by Gil Hodge's number, then add Gary Carter's number. --originally posted by "milladrive" 3. Which batter holds the Mets career record for bases on balls? Hint: Was a third baseman. Hint: Won two Gold Gloves. --originally posted by "theAmazingMet" 4. In 1988 McReynolds hit 2 grand slams, most on the team.....both of them were pretty significant and memorable. Who were the pitchers who threw the pitches? Hint: Pitcher One won a Cy Young Award in 1990. Pitcher Two was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2008. --originally posted by "m8644" 5. Until Wilmer Flores achieved the same thing in 2016, what feat was Edgardo Alfonzo the only Met ever to have accomplished? Well, you got Kingman and 156 correct. I messed up on the hint, a typographical error. I meant to say Player One debuted in 1968, not 1969.

Fernando Tatis it is! Well done. A new question has been added, with hints given for the rest. 1. To my knowledge, there has only been ONE Mets player to have his only official Mets at bat be a game ending hit (and obviously if it was a game ending hit, it was a game winning hit). Two more Mets young'uns given the heave-ho: Pitchers Jose Gomez, who played in their system in 2022 and 2023 and Brawny Reyes, who played in their system from 2021 to 2023, were released.

Schneider is correct. The apple is actually 4,800 pounds, but you're close enough based on the hint I gave, so you get credit for it. With the hydraulics and guideframes underneath, the total weight actually lifted is closer to 8,500 pounds. Two new questions have been added. 1. Hint: Played for the Mets from 2008 to 2010. Hint: Had a breakout year with the Cardinals in 1999. --originally posted by "Joe Rigatoni" 4. Chapman, McReynolds and "trick question" are correct. Well done. Three new questions have been added. 1. Someone hit a home run for the Mets two batters before the one mentioned in #3 and as a result the apple wasn't ready to come up when the second home run came? Who hit that home run? Hint: Played for the Mets in 2008 and 2009. Hint: Was a catcher. --originally posted by "Joe Rigatoni" 5. Approximately how much does the Home Run Apple at Citi Field weigh? Hint: A rhinoceros weighs about this much. The Mets released Angel Alfonseca, who played in their system in 2021 and 2023, peaking at Single-A. He is Angel Miguel Alfonseca. There is also a Miguel Angel Alfonseca in NY's system...they're brothers; I wonder if they're related to former big leaguer Antonio. Also, I didn't see it noted here—2023 Mets minor leaguer Dariel Gomez was signed by the independent Charleston Dirty Birds.

Martinez, Kent and Reyes are correct! Well done. New questions have been added, with hints for the others. 1. An event more rare than hitting for the cycle, one Met player ran for the cycle, getting himself thrown out at every base in one game. Who was this Met? Hint: Wore numbers 10 and 11 with New York. Hint: Hit .289/.356/.401 in a reserve role for New York in 1984. Hint: I wonder if he measures temperatures in his first name. --originally posted by "milladrive" 2. What other Mets player was a college teammate of Ronn Reynolds? Hint: Returned to New York in 1994 after departing the club following the 1991 season. Hint: Perhaps the correct answer is Reynolds' Irish cousin? --originally posted by "mandrake" 3. Eddie Murray, Tom Glavine, Nolan Ryan, Warren Spahn, Yogi Berra, Richie Ashburn, Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, Joe Torre, Duke Snider and Mike Piazza are all correct. Well done! Snider is the one I think of the least as being a Met, yet he played pretty much a full season with them. 1. The Mets went 9-1 in the first 10 games in which Ike Davis appeared. In those games, Ike hit .355 with a .548 SLG, one homer, 3 doubles, 6 RBIs, and 5 runs scored. It's a pretty rare feat for a team to do put up a 9-1 record in the first ten games in which a batter (non-pitcher) appears, now having occurred only 32 times in the years 1920-1939, 1952-2010. But even more rare is when a team puts up a 10-0 record in the first ten games a batter plays with a team. It has happened a mere five times in those years. And happily -- for this thread -- one of those five times was by the New York Mets. Name the batter who helped the Mets win the first ten games in which he played. (This question is through April 2010, I'm not sure if it has happened since then). Hint: Played for the Mets in 2008 and 2009. Hint: He was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic. --originally posted by "milladrive" 2. An event more rare than hitting for the cycle, one Met player ran for the cycle, getting himself thrown out at every base in one game. Who was this Met? Hint: Wore numbers 10 and 11 with New York. Tom Seaver, Gary Carter, Rickey Henderson, Roberto Alomar, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, Tom Glavine, Nolan Ryan, Warren Spahn, Yogi Berra, Richie Ashburn, Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, Joe Torre, Duke Snider and Mike Piazza were already guessed—but we're not done. By my count, there is one more person—not including coaches (so, a player or manager) that wore the Mets uniform and is now in the Hall of Fame. Who might that be? --originally posted by "theAmazingMet" 5. Who got the only hit against Bobby Jones in his 2000 one hitter? --originally posted by "theAmazingMet" Running tally of correct guessers: Johnny Lunchbucket: 65 Edgy MD: 58 stevejrogers: 42 batmagadanleadoff: 22 DocTee: 7 metsmarathon: 6 Benjamin Grimm: 4 MFS62: 3 Marshmallowmilkshake: 1 The Hot Corner: 1
