Will surprise us with a .289 batting average and decent pop, then when they bring him back for next year he'll slip to .177 and be gone by June 2025. -
Clayton is correct, well done! A new question has been added, with hints for the rest. 1. Who was the first pitcher to hit a HR in Citi Field? Hint: Spent most of his career with the Pirates. Hint: While with the Pirates, threw a three-hit shutout against the Mets in 2012. Hint: Played from 2005 to 2014, going 77-100 with a 4.30 ERA. Hint: Was a first round pick, #8 overall, in 2003. Hint: https://i.imgur.com/hfWscxU.png> Hint: Mets named Byrd, Gibson and Siebert all shared his first name. He's the only guy in big league history with his last name, but a late-90s Met named Pat had a similar sounding surname. Hint: A famous Beatle shares his first name, so does a famous Pope. His middle name is "Gurner." --originally posted by "AJbaseball00024" 2. We all know before 2010, the last time the NL won the All-Star Game was 1996......name 5 of the players who were on the rosters of the AL and NL that season who were a Mets player at some point in their careers. Piazza, Glavine, Hundley and L. Johnson have already been guessed. Hint: There were, by my count, 13 guys total. Four have been guessed for this question. Another one was a second baseman who played for the Mets from 2002 to 2003. Hint: Another guy was called the "human rain delay." Hint: Another one hit his 500th home run with New York. Hint: One guy, the second baseman mentioned above spent the plurality of his career with the Blue Jays. The Mets traded Alex Escobar, Matt Lawton, Jerrod Riggan, Earl Snyder and Billy Traber for him. --originally posted by "m8644" 3. 7-9, 4.60 ERA, will die in a car crash in late August. -
1. 91-71 2. Braves, Mets, Phillies, Marlins, Nationals 3. Yes, the Mets will make the playoffs 4. They'll make it to the World Series 5. Mets will win it all 6. 61 homers for Alonso Their record won't be better because of suspect pitching. Their offense is actually quite solid as they have potential All-Stars at every position, save for Bader (but including Baty).

Nori Aoki is still with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. Rafael Montero is still with the Astros. Fernando Salas is still with the Olmecas de Tabasco.

You got Piazza, Glavine, Hundley and Johnson correct for #5. Think of some underwhelming Mets that were part of big signings or trades from the early 2000s, that might help. Not third base for #4, but you're geographically pretty darn close. 7/21/1991 is correct—it was "against the Dodgers in the bottom of the third and the Mets won 9-4. Mark Carreon, Charlie O'Brien, and Dwight Gooden hit consecutive doubles against Bob Ojeda and the next batter Keith Miller hit a double off of Mike Hartley." For #1, Alonso and Mazzilli are correct. One of the others might have been a good field, no hit shortstop, while the other might have once been traded for Kris Benson. 1. Who are the only players to play 150 or more games for the Mets in their rookie year? Pete Alonso and Lee Mazzilli have been guessed correctly. Hint: Player 1 debuted for the Mets in 1976. Player 2 debuted in 1996. Player 3 debuted in 2002. Player 4 debuted in 2019. Hint: Player 1 played for the Mets until 1981, then returned for another stint beginning in 1986 Player 2 played for the Mets until 2002. Player 3 played for the Mets until 2004. Player 4 is still with the Mets. Hint: The ladies loved Player 1. Luis Lopez did not love Player 2. Orioles fans loved Player 3 in 2010, when he was an All-Star. Player 4 loved tearing the shirts off of his teammates after walk-off hits. Hint: One of the remaining players was involved in this trade: "December 15, 2002: Traded by the New York Mets to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for players to be named later. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays sent Russ Johnson (December 16, 2002) and Josh Pressley (minors) (December 16, 2002) to the New York Mets to complete the trade." The other player was involved in this trade: "Traded by the New York Mets with Matt Peterson (minors) and José Bautista to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Kris Benson and Jeff Keppinger." Hint: Player 1—https://i.imgur.com/MsCDB2o.png>, Player 2—https://i.imgur.com/SNP2QME.png> --originally posted by "milladrive" 2. Who was the first pitcher to hit a HR in Citi Field? Jose Valentin spent time at seven positions during his tenure with the Mets. What position did he primarily play when he debuted in 1992? Hint: Charlie Neal, Ted Martinez, Bob Bailor, Bill Pecota, Wilson Delgado, Ruben Tejada and Luis Guillorme all spent time at this position. Hint: A Spanish person might call this position "campocorto." Hint: Jose Reyes played here. Hint: Francisco Lindor plays here. --originally posted by "stejay" 4. He has a 144 home runs and a .460 slugging mark at all levels. I imagine his average is going to be really low, but he might provide some exciting moments.

Santana is correct! Well done. A new question has been added, with hints for the rest. 1. Who are the only players to play 150 or more games for the Mets in their rookie year? On June 16, 2010, the Mets strung together four consecutive doubles against the Indians, tying a National League record. The Mets had previously in their history accomplished the feat of four consecutive doubles. What was the date? Hint: Former Mets Brett Hinchliffe, Brian Buchanan, Mike Bordick and Mike Cubbage were all born on the day. Former Mets Aaron Altherr, RJ Alvarez, Wilmer Flores, Terrance Gore, Steven Matz and Kevin Plawecki were born in the year. Hint: The date might be look like a combination of Ed Kranepool's numbers. Dave Magadan was the Mets' primary first baseman the year it happened. Hint: You could also get the date if you combined Hubie Brooks' and Cleon Jones' number. The year featured the return of Brooks. --originally posted by "milladrive" 3. Who was the first pitcher to hit a HR in Citi Field? Hint: Spent most of his career with the Pirates. What's in Store for Twenty-Four?: J.D. Martinez
Cowtipper replied to Edgy MD's topic in New York Mets Talk
His five-year average: 27 HR, 88 RBI, .289 BA Three-year: 26 HR, 88 RBI, .278 BA So, I'll assume about 28 home runs and 88 RBI, with maybe a .270 average. -
What's in Store for Twenty-Four?: Pete Alonso
Cowtipper replied to Edgy MD's topic in New York Mets Talk
I put this in another thread, but I'll say it here, as well: Pete Alonso is in a walk year, and in the middle of his prime, and is one of the best pure power hitters in the game. I predict 61 home runs. -
What's in Store for Twenty-Four?: Mark Vientos
Cowtipper replied to Edgy MD's topic in New York Mets Talk
Honestly, among all the top prospects that started to come aboard a couple years ago, he always struck me as the weakest. I usually say teams should give players until they are 25 before they ditch them, but I think Vientos might be dealt away if he doesn't perform this year. He has an option left, but I could see the Mets ditching him to a team while he's still young. -
Some minor league names won't be making themselves known much this year. Are we ever going to see Matt Allan pitch again? 03/20/24 Binghamton Rumble Ponies placed RHP Dylan Tebrake on the 60-day injured list. 03/20/24 Brooklyn Cyclones placed RHP Jace Beck on the full-season injured list. 03/20/24 Brooklyn Cyclones placed RHP Matt Allan on the 60-day injured list. 03/20/24 Brooklyn Cyclones placed RHP Raimon Gomez on the 60-day injured list. 03/20/24 Brooklyn Cyclones placed LHP Eli Ankeney on the full-season injured list. 03/20/24 FCL Mets placed RHP John Valle on the full-season injured list. 03/20/24 St. Lucie Mets placed RHP Robert Dominguez on the 60-day injured list. 03/20/24 St. Lucie Mets placed RHP Zebulon Vermillion on the 60-day injured list. 03/20/24 St. Lucie Mets placed RHP Landon Marceaux on the full-season injured list. 03/20/24 St. Lucie Mets placed LHP Luis R. Rodriguez on the full-season injured list. 03/20/24 St. Lucie Mets placed RHP Chris Santiago on the 60-day injured list. 03/20/24 St. Lucie Mets placed RHP Ricardo Baptist on the 60-day injured list. 03/20/24 St. Lucie Mets placed RHP Jean Calderon on the full-season injured list. 03/20/24 Syracuse Mets placed RHP Brian Metoyer on the 60-day injured list.

Justin Wilson is no longer with the Dodgers, he opted out and is now with the Reds.
