  1. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=187950 time=1743032723 user_id=68] Jeff McNeil did it four times. Keith - three times.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Maybe this should be presented as the higher/lower game. Good idea. But I was just establishing the baseline before getting to the good stuff. Edgy was high in his guesses of 34 Mets/63 times/12 two-timers: the numbers are 24 Mets/38 times/6 two-timers. I know, I was surprised by how few and how rare. Now for part 4, which is kinda fun: Name the two-timers. (Or, actually, two-or-more-timers).
  3. No guesses beyond Edgy's guess of 34 Mets who've batted .300 while qualifying for the batting title? Come on, let's fucking GO here, okay? You've got a few days between the end of ST and Opening Day, what are yuz doing with your lives? Part 1--how many Mets have done it in 63 seasons? Part 2--many times have they done it? Have they averaged one .300 batter per season? Are they anywhere even close to that? Part 3 is --how many Mets have done it more than once?
  4. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=187871 time=1742949438 user_id=68] Richie Ashburn did it in his lone Mets season, but that, obviously, was at the Polo Grounds and not at the earlier version of Shea Stadium.
  5. Sorry I wasn't clear. Part one is simply to give the number of individual men who have hit .300 or better for the Mets while qualifying for the batting title. Part two is to add that number by adding the number of seasons of those Mets who have done it multiple times, counting each iteration as a separate entry. In other words, if only two Mets had ever batted .300, the answer would be "2" for part one, and if one had done it twelve times, the answer would be "13" for part two. Parts three and four are more interesting, but let's establish a baseline first. Your answer to part one, Edgy, is "34"?
  6. In their 63 seasons, how many different men have batted. 300 or more for the Mets while having enough at bats to qualify for the batting title? This is slightly different from "How many seasons has a Met batted over .300 while qualifying for the title?", which is part 2 of this quiz. For this part, I'm not looking for the number of seasons but rather the number in part 1 plus the number of men who have batted .300 on multiple occasions. Part 3 will be to name the multi- season .300 or more batters Parts 4, 5, and 6 to come . Possibly 7 and 8, depending.
  7. Edgy MD wrote: I have never heard the phrase deployed to denigrate women, though I have seen it deployed with a sexual connotation. Please forgive any unintended meaning. In theory, it's a gender-neutral insult--being a man, Franklin used it to explain his attraction to ladies whom others might find elderly or homely, but it could as well apply to ugly old men, such as myself, by a young woman. And to your other point, it often looks to me like the first baseman has broken contact with the bag before he grabs the ball, but that's an illusion as well, as replay shows.
  8. I think it means all cats are grey at night. It does, although the usual interpretation of that phrase has a pejorative connotation for older women, unlike the runners I call uniformly "safe." For some reason. the phrase is often rendered in French, though Benjamin Franklin is credited (by some) for originating it (in English.) Classier in French, but still insulting to women.

  10. A bad umpire? Id' make Angel Hernandez look like a super- computer. And bad eyesight? My kids should take my car keys away permanently. But everyone else is accurate about bang bang plays at first?
  11. Double post,, sorry. Is this website taking a very long time for everyone recently? Or just me?
  12. He's one Met I'm kinda down on. His velocity is off, I've been hearing, all spring long. And we can't afford to have a weak bullpen. In a sense, he's the one Met whose success the season rests most on. If he sucks, we're in serious trouble. And he might suck.
  13. ...at close plays at first base. Mets, opponents, don't matter. To me, I always go, "he made it," and then when I see replay I go, "Oh. Guess not. Nabbed by a step, ump got it right." Why is that?
  14. Sure. But your reasoning seems a bit odd. Last year, as you vividly remind me, everything did NOT fall into place if for 2 1/2 months they were awful, as they were. But thanks for keeping us grounded here--always interesting to view a different perspective.
  15. I approve of the "Pitching is Overrated" philosophy and have long been a member of Team P.I.O. You want to edit the "is" out of your first sentence above, Edgy MD, or shall I read it a dozen more times to see if I can render some sense out of it?
  16. My rating would have been higher if they'd actually signed some decent pitching. Okay, fair enough. I think Manaea's injury is just a few missed starts, and Peterson is due for a big year (to my mind), and the back end of the rotation is decent. When Alvarez comes back, I expect the offense to be very solid, far outweighing any deficiencies in the pitching staff--a lot of 7-5 wins. But yeah, the pitching could be stronger. Reminds me a little of the turn of the century staff--Leiter's ok, nothing great, Reed is unproven, Hampton who knows, Franco makes me nervous, I don't trust Benitez, etc. but they were more than sufficient.
  17. Question for youse guys predicting the Mets to finish out of first place with fewer than 90 wins: where would your predictions be if the Mets had signed neither Soto nor Alonso? Negative wins? \ 1. What will the Mets' record be? 97-65 2. Predict the NL East standings from 1 to 5: 1 3. Will the Mets make the playoffs (if so, as the division champ or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd WC)? champ 4. If so, how far will they go? All the way 5. Who will be the World Champion? M-E-T-S!!! 6. Number of regular season HRs for Pete Alonso:26 7. Who will be on the cover of the 2025 winner of the Tabloid Cover Derby? Luis Torrens
  18. And the Edgemeister gets on the board! Sam Jobito Scooter Marcoo Maurice Ronnio Stuart Dick Todd Jackson (these last two go on the Otis Amos/Ryan Nolan simple switcheroo list) Will Carley Lary Frank Jeff Greggries and here's another switcheroo, an eerie one, because of its resemblance to the name of an accused murderer: Klaus Bobby.
  19. Now YOU're doing it right!! I did get Will Mookison above, though. Ashie Richburn Ray Mureddie Leon Dannapo
  20. Hugo Fuerst.

  22. As I understand it, he's been getting and using a lot of infield-defense tips from Lindor this spring, and it seems to be paying off. I haven't seen a lot of games either, but the announcers keep mentioning the Lindor tutelage and every ball I've seen hit in Vientos' direction seems to be well handled, bunts, screaming line drives, shots into the hole, backhanders down the line.
  23. =whippoorwill post_id=187433 time=1742244571 user_id=79] You don't happen to construct Connections for a living do you?
