  1. Very cool. Still in use, you think?
  2. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Dozens of Mets since the early 00s have lived in the City Lights building in Long Island City. At one time that was the only waterfront tower, today there are probably 20. But the Mets at one time had a deal with the building and routinely put guys up there, new & young guys particularly. Details? I know there was a motel on the north side of Queens Boulevard, a low-rent sort of place, that housed new Mets (and not-so-new Mets who didn't care to move) in the 1960s. Not there anymore, but I used to drive past it all the time. Forget what it was called--I'll ransack my memory.
  3. I'd be interested if anyone on this site can inform us of any locations where former Mets were known to abide. Surely, some of us growing up must have lived cheek to jowl with some Met for a season or two. There must be hundreds of such places, unknown to many, where Mets have lived, owned bars and restaurants, rented or bought property, etc. No?
  4. The restaurant that Ron Darling co-owned with Art Shamsky. I know you meant Swoboda, but that'd be an interesting combo for a Met-centric establishment to have linked to it Speaking of which, I looked up Straw's old place in Douglaston. Sadly, since I like it when establishments stay relatively the same and not completely different (see CBGB now an upscale clothing store), it's now a real estate broker office https://maps.app.goo.gl/q5Z66pocDDxvypmYA?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copyhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/q5Z66pocDDxvypmYA?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy No, I meant Shamsky and Darling. It was on Murray Street in lower Manhattan, a half block from City Hall Park. Edited to add: There's a reference to the address and the co-ownership on the Ultimate Mets Data Base: https://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=0159&tabno=7https://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=0159&tabno=7 dated December 28 2002.
  5. Sorry if I offended anyone with this bit of trivia. It's a hobby of mine, NYC locales with a little obscure history behind them. Louis Armstrong house in Corona, walking distance of Citifield, for instance. Anyone been there? I've got some odd houses that Mets once inhabited in Queens and Long Island on my list. Some hotels in Manhattan. Rusty's former restaurant site in Manhattan. The hotel Casey lived in when he managed the Mets. The restaurant that Ron Darling co-owned with Art Shamsky. I find it cool to touch the doorknob that maybe these guys once turned.
  6. I got the address off a form I'd like to reproduce here--SABR just posted a bunch of documents. I screenshotted it, but am having some trouble getting it to post. Not a fascinating document, just kind of cool to see some of these. Maybe just post the URL: https://sabr.org/weiss-questionnaires/edward-kranepool-89981/https://sabr.org/weiss-questionnaires/edward-kranepool-89981/
  7. Seems awfully grim. No hint that he grew up, upstairs from a driving school and income tax shop, even if those two businesses weren't there when he was growing up.

Any Bronx boys here, or fans who've made the pilgrimage?
  9. =Gwreck post_id=189169 time=1744156039 user_id=56] Tyrone Taylor... is already reportedly the emergency catcher.
  10. Is Winker hurt? Marte in this lineup makes no sense to me.
  11. Pete ties it up with a windblown double.
  12. Kinda strange platoon system Mendoza's got there, Marte ® over Winker (L) but Baty (L) playing instead of Acuna ®
  13. This is the Mets fan's version of "Marry, Fuck, Kill" of course.
  14. I know, Vientos, right? But last night's substitution of Siri pinch-running for Vientos, made me wonder: what happens now if Pete twists an ankle, or gets concussed by a pitch, or is otherwise unable to play? Just for fun, let's suppose the Marlins manage to tie the game up, and we have to play multiple innings with who at 1B? I have no idea. For that matter, same scenario, but Lindor goes down. You move Acuna to SS, and Baty 2B, but with Vientos out of the game, who plays 3B now?
  15. I am deciding that this Forum is composed of rules-defiers, sufferers of Oppositional Defiance Disorder, contrarians, and men who don't take out the trash when their spouse wants them to.
  16. You're no fun. I hate the Braves, fear the Phils, meh on the NATS, kind of like the marlins
  17. You don't think Wilmer ISN'T? I'll take that bet. I love Small Sample Theater. My favorite juncture is the 16th game of the year. Or maybe the 81st. We're on pace to go 113-49 now, or even a bit better than that, which I would count as a successful season.
  18. Which would you attach, if you were forced to, to each opponent, Nats, Braves, Phils, Fish?
  19. ... and given up 2 hits, 0 runs. That's 32 batters faced, with a minimum possible of 28 in that number of IP. I don't think we can expect very much more of this.
  20. =Gwreck post_id=189037 time=1744076508 user_id=56] Is our optimal defensive alignment with Acuna at second, or at third?
  21. =Centerfield post_id=189028 time=1744075248 user_id=65] Come on Pete. Lefty on the mound.
  22. They just announced in the park that tomorrow's start time has been moved up to 4:10 PM. I always figure that the Mets' attitude should be "Yeah, we don't like the cold, but the Florida players must HATE it."
  23. The Hot Corner wrote: Damn. Lindor & Soto reach to open the inning. Pete GIDP and weak chopper to second on first pitch end the promising inning. Senga finished after 5 innings. 5 shutout innings, but not what I'd call strong shutout innings. Danny Young? Really? Well, I guess he's got to get that 7.71 ERA down sometime. Vientos bobbles a 5-3 to start the 6th. Blue calling some borderline pitches Young's way. Tomorrow's game has been moved up from 7:10 to 4:10. It must be chilly in NYC.
  24. Soto on base all ten games! Has anyone mentioned what the record(s) is/are? Mets' record? NL record? MLB record? Record for most consecutive games, start of a season? Record for most consecutive games, player joining new team?
  25. Eventually the Mets are going to load the bases with two outs and Jack one out. I said "eventually"!
