  1. Out comes the tarp. It's been raining pretty hard down here in SJ since this afternoon with no real breaks.
  2. Raining now, pretty hard. And Harper sux (delayed reaction to his last play in left).

I stood by them, even though I resent that the MLBPA has never supported the umpires' union nor attempts by minor league players to unionize. They were right to walk and to hold out, and any cracks in the unfathomable position that MLB owners had and still largely have was a good thing, from my perspective. Think of all the looking-in-from-the-outside HoF cases of baseball players whose careers included both the 1981 strike and the 1994 one --- Tim Raines, Alan Trammell, Jack Morris, Fernando Valenzuela. The labor movement might have cost them an impressive dose of historical authority. For me "them" was the players and the owners. It was MLB in general. I started going to minor league games down here (The Surf) after a few years, because I did miss the game.
  4. Opposite field. Asshole can't get around on Montero.
  5. Shit-I stepped off. I didn't see the homer. Harper?! Dagnabbitt.
  6. Montero looking good in the first. 2Ks, foul pop out to Duda (I'm not going to mention the double).(DOH!). He is keeping it low, low and hard. Some nice pitches in the 1st.
  7. I'm glad this was done (split). I feel that I have a lot more to say but it feels all jumbled up. I'm more bummed over this today than I was yesterday, which surprises me.

Or, let me put it this way, my strong feelings for the game changed and have remained that way. Not in relation to the game, which I love on any level, but to major league baseball. I've worked my way back to an extent (it never effected my love of the Mets, but I used to be much more involved in baseball as a whole) but the resentment still lingers. It's not the strike itself that pissed me off. Hey, do what you gotta do. But no World Series? Inexcusable. That's me too, except I don't feel resentment, just detachment. Yes, that too, even more so than resentment. It was like : I'm no longer going to give them my time.

  11. Three games verse the big boys, who have a 4 game lead over the Braves (NY 7 1/2 games out). Do we want to help Atlanta? Sure, why not...

  15. Almost casually, less than an hour after Jenrry Mejia blew a save in the Mets 7-6 loss to the Phillies, he revealed that he is pitching through a hernia. http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2014/08/mets_closer_jenrry_mejia_has_hernia_will_pitch_through_it.html
  16. This is a 1:05 afternoon game! NYM: Niese (5-8, 3.51) PHI: Buchanan (6-5, 4.39)
  17. Ugh, how do we let the Phils do that to us? That's a dead team walking. And another walk off loss. Pretty shitty.
  18. Phils views make it look like it was a fair ball. SNY?
  19. ..................Utley!
  20. Edgy MD wrote: I don't know. Manuel was maddeningly inarticulate. I totally enjoy his ramblings. He actually sounds sharper now than in post game talks when he was managing.
  21. I can take 48 hours of Charlie Manuel. I cannot take even 5 minutes of Mike Schmidt. (Phils feed)

  23. I didn't think they'd do it. And it's about freakin' time.
