  1. You see the films but that doesn't do him justice. I wanna see the ball burst off his bat, hear the crack of the bat. Fire up the DeLorean!

With some exceptions, I guess, like Ring Lardner. "Lamps" could mean his eyes, though that doesn't really make sense here. Maybe it's a scanning error. Oh. I think you're right. There were quite a few typos in that but I do think you're right. It makes sense in context and he's always going on about his batters eye. Man, watching Ruth play in those days must have been a treat.
  3. This is a great read. I love the Babes antiquated lingo. A left-handed batter is "port-sided". A ball field is "the lot". Some of it I don't even understand. Re pitchers: They put all theyve got on the ball and Ive had to beat them with the lamps. Does that pertain to batting under lights? This was written around 1920. Not sure what he means by "lamps".
  4. Granderson: .3 Wright: 2 Cuddyer: .5 Murphy: .2 d'Arnaud: 2 Harvey: 4 CTorres: .5 Familia: .5
  5. Ceetar wrote: Giving him the least AB on the team? nah. 3 more outs to the first series win! So you believe that Flores is batting 9th (when they do the flipped lineup) because he can't hit? That makes no sense to me. Harvey's a good hitter. Why wasn't he batting 8th today? 6-3 Mets
  6. If Familia screws this up I will explode. Lead off double for Wash. OHHHHHwhataplaybyWRIGHT. That's big.
  7. Familia with a nice cushion. I like.

And Flores in the 9th slot, when they do that. At least put Lags there and give him the bullshit line that we are going with two lead off guys. got no problems with the lineup. When/If Flores learns to hit, we can revisit moving him up. But isn't putting a guy who isn't hitting there defeating the purpose of doing it?
  9. OHHHHHHHHHwhataplaybyMUFFY!

  11. Carlyle allows both inherited runners to score. 6-2 Mets. Newy PH'ing for Buddy.
  12. Cartman: "Hi, I'm Buddy Carlyle and I have diabetes." If I had a nickle for every time I've heard this since opening day. I joke, but I also salute Mr Carlyle.
  13. I'll take "Pitchers who have FAILED" for $100, Alex.

I took all my sign guy pics and put em in a new folder, and google pulled one of those "auto saves" and deposited this in my Picasa account. 3 different gifs, actually. Has this skill become more difficult in recent years? if you consider that pitching has gotten better, yeah, probably. But it's also that the NL treats the pitcher's spot like an automatic out and not part of their job. Time for the DH. puuuuuuulease. I disagree w/that.
  16. Cya Strass
  17. Big hit Capt.
  18. Grandy with those walks
  19. Harvey approaching his 70th pitch.
  20. I like the 1955 NY Giant hats.

Hard to believe with the Yanks, Giants, Dodgers and Mets all on that list it took until 1985 for it to happen. I had never heard that before. Amazin'.
  22. Murphy: 1.9 d'Arnaud: 2 Nieuwenhuis: .5 deGrom: 3.7 Montero: 1.8
  23. Whew. I really want the Mets to win but I'm a man of my word, and I am relieved as well as bummed out. Mets lose. deGrom out pitched & served with his first loss.
  24. If Lags homers here I'll kiss TC's wrinkly ass.
