  2. Linked a ticket giveaway on my site to a Mets trivia question. I really didn't think it was that hard, but a lot of people aren't really paying close attention apparently. Lots of wrong answers, so.. Who was the first Mets pitcher to get a win on Opening Day?
  3. So I'm bad at history. sue me. (trying to make an effort be better with some of that, personally) I actually did NOT know that Eisenhower was a republican. Nor did I know his exact term years nor the list of Yankee Championship years confidentially enough to see the red flag when I noted it. You're right, it's sloppy of me. But I'm at work and I'm already multi-tasking when I'm posting here (and way too much, yes) And yes this one would've been an easy fact check but it's not always. I'll try to be better about presenting these tid-bits as unconfirmed water-cooler type info I see them as.
  4. I know fans are going to boo and he deserves it, but the actual Bay hatred seems to be somewhat tempered as compared to say Mike Pelfrey who I'd argue probably contributed more value last year.
  5. Edgy DC wrote: It gets around because we don't care enough to fact check. Fair enough. But it's time consuming to fact check each and every rumor or tidbit you hear.
  6. Even if he does have an even lower career low year, I agree, they won't release him this year. They may find ways to fit Lagaras, or Baxter, or Nieuwenhuis or Den Dekker in RF for some games more and more, but if he continues to degrade he won't make it to Spring of 2013. If he doesn't surpass 2010 levels he'll probably still be here, but have to earn a job in Spring Training.
  7. Edgy DC wrote: sharpie wrote: Yankees won plenty of times with Eisenhower in office. Witnesses say Ike was always standing at the time. Lol. well, it's a Yankee story so I didn't care enough to fact check. It's amazing how much incorrect info gets around. Apparently it's something like the last 8 or so titles, and it may have been prompted by an op-ed in the Times by Ari Fletcher.
  8. that story has been making the rounds all week. Bound to break the streak. Yankees have also never won with a sitting Republican president.
  9. Last game in Port St. Lucie. 1) Andres Torres CF 2) Daniel Murphy 2B 3) David Wright 3B 4) Ike Davis 1B 5) Jason Bay LF 6) Lucas Duda RF 7) Scott Hairston DH 8) Josh Thole C 9) Ruben Tejada SS Pelfrey and Nova. I guess the Mets acquisitcized (i can't spell) to the Yankees angry demands to have a DH since Yankees pitchers explode near baseball bats.
  10. A Boy Named Seo wrote: the thing sounds really cool, wish i could pop over for it. good luck to all yall. anyone ever hear of/see the Thurs night movie, "Mathematically Alive: A Story of Fandom"?? Sounds way interesting. There's a good dozen things on there not CPF-related that I would love to listen to. Plus, the elusive Ben Baumer makes an appearance. Neat thing happening. This Ben Baumer character is making a case to shed that elusive tag.

Velandia? 2B Piazza C Clark 1B Timo LF Wigginton 3B Alfonzo SS? Duncan CF Leiter P I'm wrong here. It's Velandia wearing 13 playing short, and Joe McEwing wearing 11 playing 2B. We won. Jason Bay was 2/4 with a double.
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: You're such a pessimist! I'm not the one suggesting suddenly that Parnell should be the closer or that he could spell Santana for spot starts. If that makes me a pessimist.. the Mets-Internet seems insane today.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: Mets up 1-0 through three, on a double by Tovar and a run-scoring GiDP. Parnell has gone three! Nothing but two hits and two strikeouts on his ledger. That's over 12 innings this spring without getting touched. hope he's not using them up!
  14. Wright and Torres both accumulated some PA on the minors side. Torres pronounced himself good to go, and expects to play against the evil empire tomorrow.
  15. yeah, I may actually have shied away to begin with if I knew it was going to cost me $70 (plus the $40 my father is paying to come in for one day) plus the $30 to get there. I'll be there Saturday. Shakily presenting and probably doing the blogger roundtable thing. I had already taken off Thursday, so I'll probably keep the day off and spend the day there then too. If I do I'll probably stay through your presentation.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Three starters. Interesting. I thought it'd be all hands on deck today but it appears to be no-hands on deck. I guess this is the last 'off day' and they'll play regulars tomorrow, and then go to Tampa and play mostly regulars there and then fly back here. I guess that makes sense, since it's the Braves and they're going to see them Thursday. Interestingly, the Braves are giving us a decent amount of starters.
  17. Mets Mon. lineup vs. Braves in Disney: Tejada-SS, Thole-C, Turner-1B, Duda-RF, Rottino-LF, Cedeno-3B, Baxter-CF, Tovar-2B, Parnell-RHP Today's lineup vs NY Mets (Noon, 1230 AM): Bourn 8 Prado 7 Freeman 3 Uggla 4 Hinske 9 Francisco 5 Yepez 2 Pastornicky 6 Hudson 1 Game on Atlanta radio.
  18. Volquez started Opening Day for the Reds last year right? and then was in the minors by May? He must be awesome at Spring Training or something.
  19. Citi Field scoreboard aside, I mean the Marlins one. It's too premature to say it's not going to be overly advertised. Personally I think that arc shape behind a trapezoid looks silly, but it does also look like the blank boards that Citi Field had before they put the ads on. I don't really know how exactly they'd shape the ads to that though. Guess we'll see.
  20. uhh, what do you think that blank space around it is for? I'm assuming ads. Also, why is it a trapezoid?
  21. TheOldMole wrote: Is it as bad as I think it is? Is there any hope? Francisco and Rauch are not Francisco Rodriguez, but they're certainly not Igarashi or Carrasco. Isringhausen wasn't actually all that good either. Ramon Ramirez IS good. Parnell has indeed looked untouchable this Spring. Acosta should also still be good and Byrdak is a solid LOOGY. If Rauch or Francisco really isn't getting it done, there are plenty of guys to step into higher leverage situations that will. There's a lot of hope.

  24. Looks like it's Jon Niese, not David Wright, getting a contract extension this Spring. Not official yet, but Looks like the Mets are inking Niese to a 5 year deal. I believe that's two free agent years.
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: That's how they asked for it. I don't think I ever saw an official 'this is how we want it' bit.
