Am I/we supposed to know who "Scratchbomb" is? if you do, you do, if you don't, you don't? Matthew Callan, writer for Amazin' Avenue and @scratchbomb on Twitter. I was just amused that it was his image I found to use.
  2. Credit to Scratchbomb for this image apparently by the url. I believe he's writing a book or something about the '99/'00 Mets. From Knot's KTE: Friday - 7:10 EDT Niese vs Paul Maholm [6-6; 3.96; 1.16 in 6 starts] A deadline pick-up from the Cubs after Ryan Dempster nixed their deal, Maholm hasnt been great but naturally has out-performed Dempster since that time and cost the Braves less to land. I once saw Paul Maholm homer at Citi Field for the Pirates. I was sitting in section 103, Row 4, seat 3. (it's the first row behind the little camera well by the RF foul pole. bit of advice, don't buy section 102 seats 1 or 2. pole is in the way. ) He hit it one section over into the Mo's Zone cutout. Old style home run.
  3. Trying to do other stuff and wife isn't around so flipped on the Orioles game as background noise. O's up 5-1 on the Yankees. If they build a statue for Jeter, it should be of him looking back at the ump gesturing that the pitch was outside.
  4. It's a sharp wake-up call to thoughts of the Mets being 'stacked' in starting pitching. Both the Braves and Yankees (And probably others) were supposedly so stacked with starters with huge prospects simply needing a couple of months. anyway, don't forget Reed Johnson very well may be what ended Johan's season and caused him to struggle in July-August. I know it was 'accidental' and we've already seen him since, but I do believe this guy could use a HBP..

They were livid about the damn third base coach, Dale Sveum, getting guys thrown out at home. I remember that, Christ, they killed him. Was it that long ago already? apparently. looked it up and he was 2004-2005. they were still losers, so must have been September 2004. Seems like yesterday sometimes. oh time..

If anyone is actually going to help, they'd be up before the 1st. Unless someone's arguing that resting your best relievers in favor of your 8th+ best relievers is an advantage?
  9. another book deal(well, 3) R.A. Dickey, who pitches for the New York Mets, has signed a three-book deal with Penguin's Dial Books for Young Readers. Dickey is best known for throwing one of the rarer pitches in baseball: the knuckleball. His memoir, published by Penguin's Blue Rider Press and called Wherever I Wind Up: My Quest for Truth, Authenticity and the Perfect Knuckleball, hit stores this past March. The first book in this deal, scheduled for fall 2013, will be a young readers' adaptation of the memoir. The second two titles in the deal will be picture books, the first of which, Knuckleball Ned, is set for spring 2014. The third book is not yet scheduled. Dickey was represented by Esther Newberg at ICM; she sold world rights to president and publisher of Dial Books for Young Readers, Lauri Hornik.
  10. metirish wrote: The question was a real dick move....basically asking a guy who is super passionate about the game if he has quit....... Francesa asked a similiar question of Terry, only the narrative in NY is obviously about the players quitting on him. I don't remember how Terry answered it.

It's probably a good thing when it's about your job. (this probably applies to other facets of life too) i hope he doesn't get fired over something like that. The media seems intent on turning sports people into rhetoric spouting mush.
  12. if he pitches every 5th day, he'll possibly be able to toss a relief inning in a key spot in the last two games maybe right?
  13. This is genius. Lets get the NYY logo going among gangs so it's banned amongst New Yorks young! This way they'll all grow up Mets fans. oh wait.. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2990288

  15. Frayed Knot wrote: Shelby Miller on to pitch. This guy has been one of the top pitching prospects in baseball over the last few years but stumbled this year to become one of the more disappointing prospects. Let's say we ruin his debut? And then we can make fun of him on account of his name being Shelby. my wife had a spider named Shelby.

  19. presumably one of the beat guys will ask him, and hopefully he won't do the same thing he did to Ted Berg and say "I'm Familia" "I'm Familia" Jeurys Familia: Jeurys Familia is the only person ever named Jeurys to play affiliated baseball and, based on quick Googling, by far the most notable Jeurys in the world. As such, it seems like no one has any idea how to pronounce it. Ive heard HAY-your-is, but the Buffalo broadcasters say JAY-or-EES. I tried to settle the matter myself when I interviewed him this year by introducing myself. Im Ted, I said, extending my hand. Familia, he said as he shook.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: More exposure, scandal, and disgrace would be nice. maybe this Cano being lazy story will gain legs, as they struggle, and people will call for Girardi's head because he "lost the clubhouse". obviously a completely MFY-free postseason is preferable, but how perfect would it be if they fall into the second spot and desperately call on Pettitte off the DL to make that start, and he's very predictably not ready for prime time and gets shelled, hard.
  21. Quick turn around today. Trying to make the first losing series in a while not be the first sweep in a while. Day off tomorrow, all hands on deck, stand tall, it's Dickey day.
  22. Familia becomes #939.

It seems like he's done next to nothing because every single hit during that span has been a single and has come with the bases empty. OK that may not be 100% accurate but I'm betting that it's purdy dern close in part because Tejada has also slowed down in front of him. That's why he only has 7 RBI in the last 28 games (B-R split, I don't feel like counting to 26) but 12 runs scored. (Thanks Ike) He's been on base 34 times though. 5 doubles, 1 HR, 10 walks.
  24. so you think they just slot in Pettitte as the #2 for the playoffs? what do you mean that type of talk is premature, it's been discussed since June!
