  1. NY Times, Friday 11/16 47 ACROSS: BIG-HEADED BASEBALL MASCOT ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ nice. Although that's not really a Friday level question in NY is it? this one is from way back, it was a Wednesday in Newsday.

  3. G-Fafif wrote: Jerry got two mentions in R.A.'s book, one of them for cutting him immediately. He did say nice things about Omar right off the bat last night. Omar'd been trying to get him for years, so it does seem like he probably blames Jerry more than Omar for cutting him so fast.

When you say it in response to my alternative preference, more than once, and then making up some quote, you're putting it on me. Nobody treats you like a leper. more than once? you weren't even the last comment and I didn't quote you. you started with the derision stuff. I didn't say anyone treats me like a leper, I said it seems like that, to me, based on the attitude of many. Not specifically here or there, just in general around baseball. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: What I'd like to see them try is a Mr. Met logo cap, or maybe a "bridge-and-skyline" inspired design. That'd be neat. a bridge and skyline might make a nice patch, it might look weird on a hat. They've changed stuff three years running now. Didn't think have a press conference with Duda, etc modeling some of the new uniforms last year?
  5. I'm not quoting you. these are general feels about the world of baseball, it has nothing to do with you. it was my opinion. If there's derision or ! it's at the sentiment I described, which is always expressed when uniforms come up. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I like them, but I hope they're not used too frequently, especially at home. Like Edgy, I prefer white at home and grey on the road. Like this. That's fine, I respect your/his opinion to prefer white and gray/grey. I'm just tired of it. I don't believe there is any need for it to be that way. there's no disrespect or tarnishing of tradition if the Mets want to have 18 uniforms and not regular schedule of how they wear them. There's nothing wrong with the black besides the idea that many don't like them. This is, again, all my opinion. any excitement is for the Mets being willing to change and not try to fit the uniform scheme into some box defined years before they even existed. I'm not really sure what's cheaply derisive about this opinion. TransMonk wrote: I don't mind these blues...better than black. Like most here, I'm hoping they're not over-used. I'd be all for retiring the snow-whites now, too. And this is sorta what I mean, i'm good for that too. I've always found the snow-whites to be extremely boring and bland.
  6. Edgy DC wrote: because I don't think there's any need to adhere to 100 year old tradition in what the team wears. I got that. What's with the circle jerk? I don't know why you read derision into practically everything I write. Especially regarding this when it's often made to seem that I'm a leper or something for daring to like something that's not the way it's always been done. I don't like the haughty stance in baseball that anything new is wrong, whether it's different uniforms, more than 2 uniforms, the Wild Card or three divisions. If there's any derision it's to the concept that baseball can't do things different (or that the Mets shouldn't) because "That's not how we do things in baseball"
  7. Edgy DC wrote: Yeah, and I asked why. What the hell? because I don't think there's any need to adhere to 100 year old tradition in what the team wears. I like the blue, it's ..different. it looks nice. white and gray are boring as hell.
  8. was a jab at Jerry and/or Omar about cutting him first in Spring Training too.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: The exact content of your previous post says they are preferable. All caps and with exclamations also. more preferable to me.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: That's kind of cheaply derisive. Why are the traditions of 30 and 40 years ago preferable? I know. They're not. but they're not _less_ preferable.
  11. MORE COLOR! More variety. less adhering to traditions designed 100 years ago!
  12. This is Really Awesome.

  14. long time Twin, I assume Tigers fans will need some time, in fact, the one I know: Did that happen? I like him, but I don't get it Too many outfielders... I want more Tigers with misspelled first names
  15. very cool.
  16. RT @LoMoMarlins hey @JonHeymanCBS I just read that we got mathematically eliminated from the 2013 playoffs. Is that true?
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Did they announce this today? There's been some question as to when they would get around to that. the 'sources' have been saying today for a while actually. There's supposed to be a road-alt too.

  19. Frayed Knot wrote: It speaks badly for those running the franchise in Miami. Not that I think south Florida will ever be the greatest sports town in America (them, Atlanta & Houston are always going to be amongst the weakest IMO) but you can't play in a stadium ill-suited for the area & sport for 20 years and run the team like shit for most of that same time period, then expect to find immediate success simply because someone bought you a shiny new crib. the Marlins had some good season though, and it's still baseball. The old place wasn't hard to get to. They packed it for the WBC. hell, it was even energetic. But I guess the fanbase thinks the WBC is of higher import than most Marlins games?
  20. G-Fafif wrote: Except for a couple of postseasons, I've never had much use for the Marlins, but on some level I wanted them to succeed as a going concern because I thought it spoke badly for baseball that it couldn't take root in Miami. But fuck that now. Move the franchise to somewhere somebody will care and let it be run by something less than a bloodless megalomaniac. I always thought it spoke badly for Miami.

Hell, he could be stuck in an elevator alone with me while wearing a nametag that says "Rob Johnson, baseball catcher" and I wouldn't be able to place him. funny story, back in 2009 I was in a Jupiter, FL elevator with two players from the Braves organization and had no idea.
  22. Nymr83 wrote: If I were Stanton I'd make it 100% that I'm done with the Marlins, trade me too because I will never re-sign. He could pull all that bitching and moaning stuff and demand trades and probably could even attempt to hold out in Spring Training and he would've even be criticized for it like someone would otherwise.
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: ...who according to Los Internets, signed a minor deal with the Cardinals today. One of those guys effusively praised in absence of almost any evidence. Gary Cohen couldn't shut his trap about what a stud this guy was defensively, and what an invaluable resource to your pitchers and so on, and he gets up here and plays catcher about as well as Lucas Duda could have. Plus, he can't hit or run. Now, I was never expecting much of him, and had he gone out and did what he did without the bullshit chorus to accompany him, then, OK, Rob. Thanks for being marginally better than Nickeas. My criticism here is really with the press corp. What are you talking about? This guy was the best reliever we had.
  24. Mets Willets Point wrote: It's not just the popularity of soccer in Portland, but that this writer thinks MLS would get in the way of MLB expansion. only in the financial sense of 'stealing' the stadium and re-renovating it.
  25. comparatively the "easy to get to" (it's along the PATH line which is no different than taking a train to Penn Station and taking a random subway to the UWS or the Financial district, but apparently it scares people) Red Bull Stadium was at ~60% capacity for the playoff game last thursday. edit: this is unfair, didn't realize the PATH still wasn't running. geeze.
