  1. Wouldn't touch him with a pole. Like Tatis last year, I appreciate his contribution during this mess of a season but I wouldn't bring him back.
  2. Finally, a happy recap.
  3. I'll take that out call at first for the poor call on Francoeur's bad call on the SB.
  4. Watching him pitch and thinking, "No way he's 34 years old."
  5. Is it me? Seems like Sheff's heart is just not in it.
  6. Great at-bat young Daniel. FUCK!
  7. Frankie in mid-season form with two walks already. Thanks DP.
  8. ]"You know something? The Yankees would have tried better than this. They just would have. They would have tried to put a representative product on the field. They might have lost most nights, might have lost 15-2 some nights. But the fans they soak for hundreds-of-dollars worth of seats and eight-dollar beers and six-dollar frankfurters wouldn't have walked away from those nights as sour as Mets fans do." Maybe all the YLDB writers are trying to out-douche each other. Reading that earlier today gave me an instant headache.
  9. Wow, Livan had an 8.71 ERA in his last eight starts. Fuck, that's horrible.
  10. The Mets spent less on the first ten rounds of the draft than any other major league team. Cash problems or did we just not like the unsigned talent? From Baseball America...
  11. Where the bats at???
  12. Oh, fucking, my! Turnabout is fair play I guess. It's got to be the patches -- stupid hat patch and even more stupid sleeve patch.
  13. Gary mentioned it during last night's broadcast but the Mets are now 4 for 48 with bases loaded and two outs. [Charles Barkley] That's terrible. [/Charles Barkley]
  14. Six quick outs, guys. No rain delay, please.
  15. Francoeur takes one for the team. Thanks Frenchy!
  16. Fell asleep in the middle of the third. Did I miss anything? Just when you want to stick a fork in these fuckers, they put together an inning like that. A fucking mazing. Oh, yeah. Trade Murphy! ;-)
  17. A happy recap! Yeeha. If for no other reason, Giants deserve to lose for the landing strip on Affeldt. I half expected to see female genitalia under there.
  18. Amen. Too bad David wasn't wearing one today.
  19. Looks like Delgado is effectively done with a strained right oblique muscle. No baseball activities for two weeks. On the bright side, "The one thing you could say is this hip is feeling better, so it's unfortunate that this popped up," said Mets assistant general manager John Ricco, the ranking executive with the team in Arizona.
  20. I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. Long live Capt. MFYDB.
  21. Even if the roof isn't open, CSB is shining down on the SHaMs today!
  22. ="Benjamin Grimm":1258cyfv]I don't think I've ever had this much apathy.[/quote:1258cyfv] I'm beginning to feel the same way. Crappy, too, when I was planning to flly up on a Saturday and home on a Sunday evening to be able to catch a couple of games at CF. This is a hard team to root for, and not just because of the losses. Injuries are a perfectly accpetable excuse for most losses but the uninspired play on the field is rubbing off on fandom. If it looked like they were consistently hustling and busting it, and playing sound ball, and there were still tough losses, I could live with that -- I'd accept it and appreciate it. But that isn't happening. Sloppy play and a general lack of any get-up-and-go, makes this a tough team to watch. To boot, a great number of these guys aren't even Mets. They're wearing the uniform but in many cases will only be remembered as Mets through sites like this or UMDB. This squad has no real identity or character. Maybe that's part of it. Character is a lot easier to root for. We need a raise. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 12 2009 12:19 PM ="MFS62"]Does that mean they're going to be high for the game? Later They are bound to be dehydrated and coughing a lot. Met hitters just perform as if they're physically ill. ]Maybe that's part of it. Character is a lot easier to root for. We need a raise. Ticket prices are getting slashed. Getting reamed more gently at the box office is roughly equivalent to a fan raise, no? 'Zat float yer boat? Edgy DC Aug 12 2009 12:25 PM Actually, I think they are playing sounder ball --- far sounder in August than in July. I just think they're fundamentally doomed with this offense, and any mistake they make is amplified by the offensive mismatches they're involved in. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 12 2009 12:53 PM ="Edgy DC":20e0phx2]Actually, I think they are playing sounder ball --- far sounder in August than in July. [/quote:20e0phx2] I'll concede the point... but that ain't saying much. And the last few games-- in ways both obvious (Pagan's travails, Castillo's airmailed toss, Murphy not being where he oughta for the DP last night) and subtle (every single one of those play-at-the-plate throws missing first-base-side, e.g.)-- have been kinda brutal. holychicken Aug 12 2009 01:09 PM When I load up my my.yahoo page in the morning and I see that the Mets have a game later that day. themetfairy Aug 12 2009 01:13 PM My heart broke when I saw Jonathan Niese collapse and fall off the mound in pain. Poor kid. HahnSolo Aug 12 2009 02:37 PM "Batting leadoff, Cory Sullivan" kinda gives me the blues. Rockin' Doc Aug 12 2009 08:01 PM Whenever the line up is posted in the daily IGT. If the line up doesn't have Johan Santana pitching and batting ninth, then I generally hold out little hope of a Mets win. Rockin' Doc Aug 12 2009 08:04 PM "________________ is heading to third and he's being waved home by Razor Shines." TransMonk Aug 13 2009 07:45 AM I cancelled my MLB.TV package earlier this week saving me $40 for the rest of the season and making way for NFL Sunday Ticket. To be honest, I only got through about 20 full Mets games this season, but had it on in the background while I did other things. It just hasn't been any fun watching games this season. Or last season. Or the season before. Benjamin Grimm Aug 13 2009 07:49 AM The last two seasons had plenty of fun, at least from April through August. This year, the fun pretty much ended when May did. Vic Sage Aug 13 2009 10:27 AM i'm supposed to take the family to the game this saturday, and none of us want to go. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 13 2009 10:32 AM ="themetfairy":1bvvejij]My heart broke when I saw Jonathan Niese collapse and fall off the mound in pain. Poor kid.[/quote:1bvvejij] To tell the truth, nothing on this list really made me hurt inside-- at least not after, say, June-- like this.
  23. ="Edgy DC"]"The pitch count is up around a hundred." In the fourth inning. I'm hoping one day to hear that in the 8th.
  24. Couldn't listen to the DB TV announcers so I switched to WFAN and Howie Rose made a very good point late in the game. That point was that Mets pitching woes have been such that when the team takes the field the only time the players must feel they have a reasonable expectation of winning is when Santana takes the mound. Howie was very direct in referring to The Tall Glass of Water as a tremendous disappointment. Master OTO, Wayne Hagin, next chimes in wondering out loud how things were going to get better. I believe that's accurate and a factor as to why recent play has been so sloppy. I know they're professionals but that must be mentally taxing. Not that I wouldn't give a nut to be so taxed.
