  2. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Aw hell. I LIKED Granderson. Nice guy when I interviewed him last year. I've heard he was well liked. Doesn't hit lefties. Tigers did very well here
  3. My Mets wrist watching wearing mailman loves the idea of Bengie Molina at C..we're screwed Corey Hart in the OF and Lackey and/or Wolf Assuming Molina that would about do it I will not remember or care about the Maine
  4. I saw Ollie and it was like seeing Flounder in Animal House
  5. Per Fox, the Pirates have intensified their pursuit of Bobby Crosby thats big of them
  6. On that note, Edwin Jackson has been blogged to the Mets If true tremendous pickup
  7. One blog, picks up another blogs, streams another blog blog blog blog Screw blogs
  8. Figgins look like a Mariner for 35 Million..quite a few FA's coming around..Only Mets related rumor on Rotoworld. NY Times reports Omar's number one priority at the winter meetings next week is trading Castillo.
  9. If you have Thole, Santos, Coste, Blanco why bother to sign Bengie Molina at all?
  10. You need a "safeword" when watching these 3 pitch
  11. I guess Molina & Blanco go north, while Coste does the Crash Davis thing on Thole. Heck, Thole could be ready by summer. Santos..to be moved..his value? hard to gauge...

The Mets we meet are primarily if not exclusively the many new Mets who made Shea such an exciting place in the past season, particularly an incredibly chatty and amiable Dave Kingman (teaching kids in the community how to hit) and the endlessly promising Mike Vail. Joe Frazier's introductory press conference (at which he's asked if he's got any more Vails at Tidewater), Dairylea Day, Jerry Koosman's brief stint as closer and a visit by Pele are all covered. Plus more. Much more. Terrific excerpt here. The 1975 film was a hoot. I loved where Lindsey was so proud to mention the Mets would break 1.75 million in attendance. That appearance by Pele was worth more than a quick bite. Done in an era where home team kool-aid tasted so good

  14. Edgy DC wrote: Parity is a nice word we use for it. I don't like it. I call it a forced annual re-distribution of the talent to further restrict the players' bargaining positon. Now Potty Parity --- that I can behind. We could use some forced annual distribution of the baseball talent to keep the fans of every team connected. Potty-parity..cute
  15. Edgy DC wrote: The NFL model is awful and does nothing but raise the level of the owners' enrichment and the players' exploitation to unconscionable levels. Awful? there is more parity in the NFL than baseball, Exploitation..Like baseball owners overlooking the steroid era?? many good football players make less than a backup catcher and frankly I don't care. Owners making money? That is the basic idea, right?

American Football may be boring to you, but I believe there is more parity in Football than Baseball.
  17. From Breslin in SI 8/13/1962 on Stengel "Do you know who my player of the year is? My player of the year is Choo Choo Coleman and I have him for only two days. He runs very good"
  18. I like the idea of a salary floor..That should add some balance. A precursor to a salary cap? Probably not, but I wish baseball DID have a salary cap. Use the NFL model..Every team has a shot at turning it around in one year. Baseball players making less money? Cool!!
  19. Doesn't Matsui look like Moe from the Three Stooges Beyond that..got any Traci Lords??
  20. Jay Witasick..Ok, he has a terrible inning at the worst time.."At least I had some fun"..just a little self deprecating humor not to be taken so seriously... Wouldn't most players give Jay a little support in the moment..something like "Yeah, you really got your tits ripped off" with a little chuckle? As far as SI in general, it is a shell of what it was. They couldn't even afford to keep one of their prime assets Rick Reilly...
  21. I prefer a cape over a vest
  22. Omir Santos, Chris Coste Henry "Benny from the Bronx" Blanco and potentially Bengie Molina One short of a flush of mediocrity.. Paul Loduca says he want's to return to baseball. What are the "odds" baseball wants him
