  2. I remember one year we were the Firemen. My team won the league championship as Village National Bank. I got a trophy out of that.
  3. I liked it. I think Robert Downey, Jr. is turning himself into the next Johnny Depp.
  4. Then who's #874?
  5. I just think it's a complete waste of a column. It's time that you or I will never get back.
  6. His pre-game routine consisted of: I probably smoked two joints, drank about three or four beers, got to the ballpark, took some [amphetamines], took a pain pill, drank a cup of coffee, chewed some tobacco, had a cigarette, and got up to the plate and hit, Carbo said. How'd he get to that point by the '75 World Series? When I came to the big leagues in 1970 with the Big Red Machine, the trainer told me, You need to take these vitamins, Carbo said. Carbo gobbled them down. He hit .310 for Cincinnati manager Sparky Anderson and was The Sporting News Rookie of the Year. He would never do better. In the offseason, he asked his doctor for more vitamins. These arent vitamins, the doctor said. Youre taking speed. That was the beginning of the end, Carbo said. The Cincinnati organization trainer was giving me speed, so I never played a game without it, he said. Then he started giving me pain pills. Then when I couldnt sleep, he was giving me sleeping pills. So I got to the point where I couldnt play without any of them. I was introduced to marijuana in 1969. I was introduced to cocaine in 1973. So from 1973-80, I was taking Dexedrine, Benzedrine, Darvons, sleeping pills, smoking dope, drinking beer, doing cocaine, and chasing women, and I never played a day without it.
  7. It wasn't a function. It was at the Mets vs. Cardinals game, August 22, 2006, at Shea.
  8. You can't have a first baseman wear No. 6. It's too Mike Marshally. Garvey was a more than serviceable #6 1B. Does Ike have hairy Popeye forearms? Popeye doesn't have hairy forearms. That would be the Goons:
  9. What this indicates to me is that Jerry Manuel has way too much influence over roster moves. He should be planning to use what players he's given, not fucking around with our future for his short-term woodies over Mejia's fastball.
  10. Try Bernie Carbo on for size: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Bosox-s-Bernie-Carbo-says-he-was-stoned-during-;_ylt=AmwZQS.zX1qm4B14AXZ5RE8RvLYF?urn=mlb,231719 "I played every game high,'' Carbo said. "I was addicted to anything you could possibly be addicted to. I played the outfield sometimes where it looked like the stars were falling from the sky."
  11. Yeah, I thought Green got sent down already. Or was that an Adam Rubin tweet that was flat-out wrong?
  12. That is the single lamest column I've ever read.
  13. One of my big time-sucks is quizzes on Sporcle. http://www.sporcle.com/games/minorleague_cities.php Can you name all the current Triple-A cities?
  14. From Surfing the Mets late last night:
  15. The Snooze has named Andy Martino as Rubin's successor as Mets beat writer. Andy Martino returns to the Daily News after one year as Phillies beat writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer. He began his journalism career as an intern here, covering nearly every sport and spending significant time reporting on the 2008 Mets. Before that, he spent three years teaching high school English in Brooklyn. A Rochester native, he is a graduate of Purchase College, SUNY and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
  16. There's no way I'm missing the Fourth of July series right in my own backyard. In non-Mets GttG, the White Sox are coming to Washington from June 18-20, meaning the President is going to show up at at least one of those games.
  17. He looks like Charlie Crist.
  18. BREAKING!!!!!!!!!1!!1!!!!! Chris Coste is Lord of the Flies!!!!!
  19. Me neither. Lunchables kept grabbing everyone I wanted.
  20. If they would just bite the bullet and release Perez, this would be a whole different ballgame.
  21. Ceetar wrote: Well, Omar's last statement was that he was going to AA. Congratulations Omar, way to take responsibility for your actions.
  22. Yeah, well if my name were Bill Batson, I would totally get permission to use the lightning bolt as my campaign logo.
