  1. I'd definitely kick the tires on Kinsler.
  2. Edgy MD wrote: I think opinions about him are inflated because he's got a cool name. I agree with this analysis.
  3. The writers only ever vote on players. Managers, umpires, and executives are only ever voted in by whatever we're now calling the Veterans' Committee.
  4. If Bowie Kuhn and Bud Selig are Hall of Famers, then Marvin Miller should be too. You can't tell the story of baseball without him. He was a consequential figure.
  5. I'm fine moving Harvey if we get an everyday player in return.
  6. Wasn't the incident where he was hung over and didn't show up to the ballpark related to him seeing an ex with someone else and losing it?
  7. A good day for the Hall, but Miller's exclusion remains a travesty. Simmons should also be in. Hopefully the next time this era is considered, Whitaker is on the ballot.
  8. Dee Gordon traded to the Mariners.
  9. Wasn't he a mostly-shitty Brave?
  10. Joe Morgan can kiss my ass, the pretentious douchebag. How many greenies did you do, Joe? My ballot: Bonds Clemens Guerrero Hoffman Larry Jones Martinez Mussina Ramirez Thome Vizquel Would also vote for if the Hall would do away with its ridiculous 10-person limit: Kent Schilling Sheffield Sosa Walker Not ready to put on my ballot but think they deserve consideration: Andruw Jones Rolen
  11. Lagares will never be whatever it is we thought he would be. I'm fine cutting bait with him.
  12. Anthony DiComo wrote: In addition to hiring a trainer to replace Ray Ramirez, the Mets plan to add an overall wellness coach to their staff, essentially a supervisor.
  13. I imagine if he goes in with a team cap, it's Royals vs. Mets for that honor. Can somebody pull the numbers on that?
  14. Would love to have him.
  15. Halladay was a throwback to an earlier era of pitchers going deep into games. Hall of Famer in my book.
  16. Pasco County Sheriff confirms that Roy Halladay has indeed passed away.
  17. Unconfirmed reports that Roy Halladay's plane went down in the Gulf of Mexico. 1 dead but as yet unidentified.
  18. The good news is that with the new voting cycle announced last year, players from this era will be voted on again in only two years' time. So there's a chance that Keith or Lou Whitaker could come up for a vote in December 2019. As for my selections: Miller - No explanation required. It is a travesty he wasn't voted in while he was still alive. Morris - The only players who have received the support of 60% of the voting members of the BBWAA and have not yet been enshrined in the Hall are Gil Hodges, Jack Morris, Trevor Hoffman, and Vladimir Guerrero. Hoffman and Guerrero will get in this year, and we all know Gil deserves to be in the Hall. Simmons - I know that I've raised Simmons' case before in years past. It's not his fault that he played at the same time as Johnny Bench. His numbers are Hall-worthy. Trammell - He was the prototype for the modern hitting shortstop. His candidacy likely suffered because of crowded ballots and unfair comparisons to shortstops from the '90s and '00s.
  19. The ballot for the "Modern Era" (defined as 1970-1987) of what was formerly known as the Veterans Committee has been released. Voting will take place December 10. The candidates are: Steve Garvey Tommy John Don Mattingly Marvin Miller Jack Morris Dale Murphy Dave Parker Ted Simmons Luis Tiant Alan Trammell Who do you think is worthy?
  20. I do hope the clubhouse issues have been resolved.
  21. How many other teams have assistant hitting coaches? Wouldn't a new hitting coach want to be able to decide who their assistant is?
  22. I'll pass.
  23. Word out of DC is that the Nats are out on Girardi because they don't believe in paying their managers big contracts.
  24. And as I mention my strong preference for an expansion team to wind up in Austin, I find out that as of October 17, the owners of MLS' Columbus Crew are trying to initiate a move to the Texas state capital.
  25. I'd get the temperature of the other players on whether they want him back before picking up Cabrera's option. It sounded like he was making everyone miserable with his mid-season antics.
