  2. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: 10.Johneshwy What the hell kind of name is that? I thought you made it up The name of highly speedy Puerto Rican Met who came in on a minor league free agency contract in 2020. Got into seven games this season in the midst of the Mets' outfield crisis and acquitted himself well. He would have gotten into more but he got himself hurt during that period also. His biggest moment as a Met is pretty anonymous — hitting for the cycle in spring training facing mostly big league pitching against the Cardinals in Jupiter. One of the reasons it's barely remembered is that the Mets had no TV or radio broadcast of the game.
  3. That's not the finest of looks.
  4. Good one. Jacob currently flaps those ears for the Blue Jays, although he's put up a 6.00 ERA in nine innings, so he may not be a first choice for the postseason roster. Troy Miller hasn't done much more, starting one undistinguished game for Bingo, doing much better in his second game, before hitting the Injured List. __________________ Put through waivers by the Mets and claimed by Milwaukee. 5. Some, maybe, but that's not really a problem. I would expect supply grossly outstrips demand for would-be front office executives. (Who doesn't want that job?) And I'd rather somebody who wants to put their head down in those jobs over those who get off on fostering personal media relationships. I mean, it takes a mindstretch to imagine somebody saying, "You know, the Mets like my credentials, and I think I killed it in my interview, but they really seem to be dicks about execs leaking to the media on the side. I'm going to turn them down and hope something opens up soon with the Rangers."
  6. If Johneshwy was the runningest Met on this list (and who doesn't like to have a baserunning specialist on the roster in September?), then McKinnney was the hittingest, and probably the most valuable 2021 Met on this list. Nice work. __________________ Put through waivers by the Mets and claimed by Milwaukee. Put through waivers by Milwaukee and claimed by Seattle. 8. At last count, 726 players had appeared for the 2021 Mets, many starting the season in the employ of unfriendly alternative organization and many finding themselves among such company now. The blanks below represent 2021 Mets, who are no longer Mets even as 2021 continues. They are identified only by their post-Mets organizational itineraries and the undated transactions that got them there. Name those Mets. __________________ Put through waivers by the Mets and claimed by Milwaukee. Put through waivers by Milwaukee and claimed by Seattle. 9. Wheeler Dealer goes for the Phillies, and the Mets counter with TieOneOn. Mets will have to get the early lead to keep the boobirds from owning the room after that St. Louis crumble, and getting the early lead will be a tall order.
  10. A little late noise gives the Mets #21 on second, #21 on first, and #21 up at the plate.
  11. Mazzilli's lone career grand-slam homer came as a Met on the 202nd birthday of The United States of America, https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN197807041.shtmlJuly 4, 1978, breaking a scoreless tie in the eighth inning by taking Larry Christenson deep with the sacks drunk in the eighth, handing the Mets a 4-0 win. Both Christenson and winning pitcher Pat Zachry went the distance. Zach was brilliant, holding the division champs to two hits and a walk. It raised the All-Star's record to 10-3, but it was his last win of the season. That was the first of two games that day between the Mets and Phils, and Mazz went https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN197807042.shtmldeep again in the nightcap. Craig Swan was terrific as well, striking out 13 (including Greg Luzinski four times), but he faded at the end, losing 3-2 on one run in the eighth and two in the ninth.
  12. I've got Cycle Fever. And the only cure is more McNipple.
  13. It's kind of beside the point as the Cards' pull away, but what is Hembree doing cutting off outfield throws? Back up the plate, man.
  14. Nice to see them (a) honor him while he's living, and ( honor him while he's active.
  15. A liner up the middle snagged, an opposite-field drive to the warning track, and an opposite-field drive over the wall but not far enough. It beats the strikeout followed by the GiDP, but shit.
  16. What a punch in the nootbar.
  17. Hopefully Diaz is also wearing 21 tonight.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Edgy MD wrote: I have no problem with giving a player a sacrifice if he's going for a hit as well. It isn't either/or, it's both/and. A player could bunt regularly with men on and be assured of never making an out. If he indeed always came up with men on base, always was successful, and always batted with less than two outs, sure. Good for him.
  19. OK, everybody hop on Pillbox's back. He's carrying you home.
  20. I have no problem with giving a player a sacrifice if he's going for a hit as well. It isn't either/or, it's both/and.
  21. It's not speed or movement with Lester, but he changes speeds and locates his pitches.
  22. I can't understand that. Just moments earlier, the booth was underscoring how Pillar couldn't be off with contact, and shouldn't be off with contact, that he had to give the team two chances to drive him home, and then he takes off on contact, gets caught in no man's land, and they say that there was nothing he could do.
  23. I can't speak to "that established" vs. "replacement level." That's too fuzzy. But performers fall off the table all the time. It's actually not rare at all. Especially if they get hurt, get suspended, or age catches up with them.
