  1. Best of outcomes.
  2. Yeah, though I think the first concern is Rumble Ponies pitcher Marcel Renteria, who seems to take a massive cross from Tyreque Reed. The tweet below misidentifies their respective teams. It's hard to read what's going on, but from what I can glean, it looks like Renteria provokes Reed after hitting him, which, if true, seems pretty dumb with anybody, but moreso with Reed, who looks like he weighs in at a rock-solid 250. Reed lays him out so thoroughly that Renteria lies alone and seeing stars for a few minutes while the Ponies' defenders all intercept Reed. And then after couple of awkward beats on the mat, he charges at a random dude. But that's pure adrenaline, and you can see he's clearly hurting. Baty and Reed were the only ejections. https://twitter.com/MiLB_Tonight/status/1517324914092560385 Portland took it out on the baseball after that and went on to win 12-5, having trailed 3-0 early.
  3. Lefty Specialist wrote: He just sounds blintzy. He's definitely eating something. Yeah, that's pretty much it. There's powdered sugar on whatever it is.
  4. That tweet doesn't mention the mouth full of cheese blintz.
  5. Plus good crowds in crappy weather, no injuries, a bullpen that has been judiciously used, and tributes during the series to Tom Seaver, Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, and Jay Horwitz.
  6. Mets have one run home in the eighth, but with better baserunning, they could have had three.
  7. More minor league castaways who've gotten new jobs since Christmas time, while Michael Conforto waits by his phone. Go get 'em, Bradly.
  8. When Gary throws it to the studio for an update, MLB.tv viewers don't get the report along with the SNY audience. We get five or 10 seconds of silence, while the cameras stay with the game. But just now, Gary threw it to Sal in the studio, and didn't kill his own mic, and you could clearly hear him stuffing a cherry blintz in his mouth, saying, "WHY are we showing Yankee highlights?"
  9. Lindor as a DH has been an effective experiment. It's great to see a hard hit ball up the middle scooting through again. That may be, in part, a product of the Mets finally countering the shift with bunts and slaps the other way.
  10. Maybe some little-known lefthanded-hitting infielder kidnapped Guillorme, showed up at the park the next day, and took his job, claiming that he was Luís without a beard.
  11. If we're scoring in an arithmetic sequence, having scored one in the first and two in the second, we can be expected to score three in the third. If we're scoring in a geometric sequence, having scored one in the first and two in the second, we can be expected to score four in the third.
  12. First as a Met. Making it the most important of his career.
  13. Giants tie it as Keith correctly (but after the fact) calls out the Mets on their defensive positioning.
  14. We didn't start a thread for this week, but we've had a lot of cool business in baseball this week, including a 20-year-old Japanese pitcher only prevented from pitching two consecutive complete games by his manager's hook, and the U.S. Capitol being evacuated because they didn't know the Nats had scheduled a military flyover. But then we have this Junior College action. Some pitchers just don't like giving up homers.
  15. Delroy Lindor pours himself a cup of Coca-Cola for a 1-0 lead.
  16. UNKNOWN BALTIMORE CITY WORKER TALKING TO ME IN THE SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT: Is Showalter gonna lead you guys to the World Series this year? EDGY (TO SELF): (I guess he noticed my Mets hat.) EDGY: I'm hoping so. He wasn't able to manage last night. He was away to have a medical procedure and nobody knew who was in charge of the team. UNKNOWN BALTIMORE CITY WORKER: Yeah, I read about in the New York Post. We all love Buck here. EDGY (TO SELF): (Yeah, that's cool, but ... what kind of nut do you have to be to live in Baltimore and make a daily habit of reading The New York Post?) EDGY: Yeah, that's cool.
  17. Let's win by 15. 18. Exactly. One team in that situation may have Al Leiter coming up and no better options on the bench, and Randy Johnson staring down at him from the mound. While another team may have Babe Ruth coming up and Bob Meusel on the bench, and Sloppy Thurston toeing the rubber. In a vacuum, with all teams being one, they average to a 5.0% likelihood of winning, but Starling Marte would have a lot more reason to run in the former situation than in the latter.
  19. Mets Win Expectancy after Nimmo singled to center in the seventh: 2.4% Mets Win Expectancy after Marte followed that up with a single to center of his own: 5.0% Mets Win Expectancy after Marte then got caught stealing: 2.5% Marte giveth and Marte taketh. While that was an unforced error, the real killer-diller in the night was Robinson Canó's groundout the next inning.
  20. Syracuse reliever Eric Orze is the last Mets player from this abbreviated MLB draft still in the organization. Mets in the 2020 Draft 1) [CROSSOUT]Pete Crow-Armstrong, of (Harvard-Westlake HS, CA)[/CROSSOUT] Traded to CHC for Javy Baez and Trevor Williams, 7/30/2021 . 2a)[CROSSOUT] J.T. Ginn, p (Mississippi State University, MS)[/CROSSOUT] Traded with Adam Oller to OAK for Chris Bassitt, 3/12/2022. 2b) [CROSSOUT]Isaiah Greene, of (Corona HS, CA)[/CROSSOUT] Traded with Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, and Josh Wolf for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco, 1/16/2021 . 3) [CROSSOUT]Anthony Walters, ss (Sand Diego State Univ., CA[/CROSSOUT] Released, 8/2/2021. 4) [CROSSOUT]Matthew Dyer, c (University of Arizona, AZ)[/CROSSOUT] Traded with Tommy Hunter to TBR for Rich Hill, 7/23/2021. 5) Eric Orze, p (University of New Orleans, LA)=#0000BF] Currently with Syracuse. This, of course, was the only draft the team participated in under Brodie Van Wangenen's supervision, so hs legacy is barely hanging in there.
  21. One fish. Two fish. Red fish. Boo fish.
  22. Shoulda bunted, Nimmux.
  23. Lefty closer, so McCann gets to hit. This could be a Casey at the Bat inning if Alonso can get to the plate.
  24. Well, Reid and Foley have made a good pair this evening.
