1. Anybody wanna KTE the Kubs for me?
2. I'm always gonna agree about the downside of homogenization, which is why I think MLB should mostly leave each team to market themselves as much as possible. Let them grow more distinct from each other so I can feel clearer about who I love and who I hate and who I laugh at and who I fear.
3. Yeah, that was a crap call. Buck adds insult to injury by pulling him for defense after he laid out for a popup. And Hunter starts things off ignominiously.
4. Smith's longball addiction is relentless.
5. Smiff out for a second inning. Buck isn't ready to ring the Joely bell.
6. Balk gets us the second run anyhow. Hopefully we can win this and get out of town without having to use Diaz again.
7. Dubble for Guillorme plates one and might have plated two if not for the stands getting in the way and the Mets not running with a 3-2 count on their best contact guy. Of course if they were running, the thirdbaseman might have moved over to cover and made the play on the hit.
8. Strange how if you dodge a tag on the way to first, but stay in the baseline, but your change of direction takes you out of the baseline a step later, you're safe. Braves didn't even challenge.
9. The sixth inning is when reality punches Mets' starters in the nose. Scherzer got punched in the seventh, but he's Max Scherzer.

Hopefully that KABOOM! was Escobar's way of showing he got the message. Canha too!
11. Bassitt's getting away with some hard outs with men on base.
12. Terrific stop to end the threat by Lindor.
13. Gary's favorite show. Might want to stick with baseball.
14. Also a lot of 1980 types. Also interesting to see Justin Turner and recall the run that sealed his fate in new York. But no Valentin action.

16. Two on with the heart of the order coming. Big chance to put a dent in this game. 2-0 to Lindor.

18. =G-Fafif post_id=99553 time=1657724868 user_id=55] Dom Smith's streak of 102 consecutive games with at least 1 plate appearance and 0 home runs is tied for 45th-longest in Mets history. The upper echelons of the list (per Baseball Reference's searchable Stathead) is littered mostly with Bud Harrelson types. Buddy has four streaks ranging from 124 to 299 games without a homer. A couple of names you wouldn't instinctively expect to see with longer steaks than Dom's include John Stearns (whose 46 HRs as a Met matches Dom's total) and young Wayne Garrett (though he blasted a World Series homer in the midst of that 1969-1970 regular-season void). The point here: Dom really needs to go yard.
19. I'm all about marketing players as people. I think that works well, and MLB should lean into it.
20. The problem with highlighting players is that baseball stars don't get fed the ball. They get four or so trips to the plate just like anybody else. So you can market the hell out of Lebron James, and maybe he scores 55. But even if he has a bad game, he's probably going to get enough shots that he'll score 24 with two or three terrific memorable highlights. On average, there's a good chance you'll see 30 and four or five highlights. Even marketing Barry Bonds in his prime, an average night for him would be 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Marketing players, you can't really promise much return on an evening's investment. Baseball is a team game, and what you're buying is the team, the culture, and the social experience. It's not the easiest sell, but it's hard to make that into something else.
21. Yeah, I like promoting big shot prospects as injury replacements. It takes the pressure off of them if they arrive as temps.
22. Wow. I think it's clear that we can kinda no longer hoping that Smith can find himself. We're at the point where we need it to happen. 23. Pause a moment and acknowledge the passing of longtime MLB shortstop and Metdaddy Dick "Ducky" Schofield. Though a reserve most of his career, Ducky had his best season with the champion 1960 Pirates, and was the shortstop behind Harvey Haddix for his 12-inning perfect game. Almost never had a bad baseball card. 24. That's a rough one.
25. Nick Zwack cannot be thwarted. After being named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month for June last week, the Rick Dempsey lookalike continued in beast mode through July, with his win today expanding him to 2-0 / 1.59 with 15 strikeouts and three walks in the Ruby Month. That looks good until you ask yourself "So, what was so great about his June?" and see his 0.36 ERA over 25 innings for the month. If you're not Coney Island catching his next start, ask yourself, "What am I doing that's so important?" [FIMG=500]https://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/zwack-e1651579743852.jpg[/FIMG]
