He had very little minor league experience due to injuries. He'd been with them since 2015, but only amassed 250 innings in the minors. The Mets had to continue to promote him to keep from losing him in the Minor League Rule V draft, leaving him behind the eight ball too often.

I'm willing to bet a substantial amount of Cranebucks that the Mets get a hit. At LEAST one.

I certainly agree with that. Trade envy is an unhealthy condition. One problem with assessing deadline deals is that prospect rankings at this time of the year are based on incomplete data. The two prospects the Mets gave up for Naquin (José Acuña and Hector Rodriguez) are mostly unknown, but they were crushing it in the lower minors. That could be the last we ever hear of them, or prospect watchers may finish comparing notes and chatting up scouts this offseason, and they're going to shoot into the team's top ten. Same with ZWACK! He's a 2021 draft pick who had been lighting up Brooklyn (which ain't the low minors no more) and surely would have seen some ranking upgrades this offseason.

=smg58 post_id=101870 time=1659457745 user_id=62]Edgy, is there something wrong with the air in the Baltimore/DC area that their general managers are running their teams like fifth graders in a Strat-o-Matic league with high schoolers?

Trey Mancini goes to Houston as part of a trey-team treyd. Houston gets Boomer from the Orioles and Jayden Murray from the Rays. Tampa gets José Siri (insert pun here) from the Astros. Baltimore gets minor league pitchers Seth Johnson from the Rays and Chayce McDermott from the Astros.

The Mariners, of course, also have honorary Met Luis Castillo. Plus Tommy Milone is on the injured list. I move that we just rename them The West Coast Mets (even if we mean the coast of the Puget Sound). They also have Manny Acta in the coaching box at third and Lenny Randle forever blowing the ball foul.

It's all in the math.

There you go. It's nice to hear a charity advertising during a Mets radiocast that isn't as questionable, even if, again, they say virtually nothing about their programming in the ad, so it kind of feels suspicious.

New Nats pitcher Hunter Harvey is the son of former Marlins pitcher Bryan Harvey.

Time-outs are magical that way.

Although their commercial on Mets radio is just as ambiguous as Kars4Kids, https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/020554654The Tunnels to Towers Foundation is highly rated and respected.

I don't believe the that injuries and the Mets have a special relationship. It seems that the Mets have looked to the trade deadline to shore up their roster with redundancy rather than going for a splashy upgrade. In the meantime, the Mets led the league in ERA in July even without whatshisname, and they have no room on their roster for David Peterson. Catcher remains the best target for an upgrade, but the deal may not be there. Trades ain't everything.

KAPOWIEEEEEE!!!

Ah, shit. Marte taking one off the hand.

Three hits for Nimmo. Steve Cishek in the game for Washington, and I guess that's where he's been this year. Good career for that guy, while rarely getting to close.

Plenty of teams sign guys to long-term valuable contracts and fail. It totally happens. I find it hard to call a losing team a laughing stock. It's a closed system. There are always going to be as many losses as wins, even if everybody signs their Austin Riley.

I think it's more about Vogelbach reaching in the mid .500's as a Met and the last lefty being out of the game.

Pulling a guy one out into the fifth with nobody on base after he just struck out the #3 hitter is kind of ass. Not that I'm complaining. Getting deep into the bullpen in the first game of the series is a gift that keeps giving. As for pinch-hitting, the Nats have no lefties in their pen, so turning the DH over to Vogelback for the rest of the night makes some sense.

That's a tough pill. Didn't get a lot of opportunity to find whatever stroke he might have since coming off the injured list. Loved how he ran the bases.

Nobody needs to not hate anybody, as much as I'd recommend that. But we've all had mothers, fathers, spouses, and schoolteachers, and we all know how to behave in groups. Let us all please refrain from dehumanizing rhetoric directed at fellow posters and classes of our fellow citizens, and let us refrain from bigotry. It's really easy, and if we won't or can't cooperate, there's a subforum where we can engage in all that. There are also massive stretches of the rest of the Internet. This is not that. Let's go, Mets.

Because we have rules and we've been down that road ad nauseum.
