  1. It's all about going 1-0 over the next one with me.
  2. Sam Clay is the yo-yo who hasn't even gotten to be spun.
  3. I never gave a fuller account of this but this was a surprisingly good find. Apparently it's part of a rising genre of Japanese filmmaking that attempts to edit films like Hitchcock in Rope, telling the story in real time and making it look like it's all one shot. These are generally done on the cheap but by ambitious young filmmakers, but this one came out right as COVID was shutting everything down, so it was one of the few films in distribution at the time and really caught on. We were on a roll with seeing a lot of time-loop movies at the time but this one kind of stood out in it's insane premise, and seeing the same scene play out from different perspectives four, eight, and 12 minutes apart can create an interesting type of tension as characters try to elude fates they are warned about by increasingly frenetic future versions of themselves. There's a little rom-com, a little stupid-young-adults-get-mixed-up-with-the-mafia, more than a little brain-breaking time concepts, and a lot of handheld cameras. Thumbs up.
  4. When back-end relievers get sent up and down, it may be hard to distinguish them, but eventually one of them gets under your skin. Who is it? Who do you like to welcome back the most and regret saying goodbye to the most in 2022? We'll treat Chasen Shreve, Colin Holderman, and Jake Reed as ineligible, and designate Drew Smith and Tommy Hunter as Guys Who Stuck, but we'll let injured yo-yos like Sean Reid-Foley play.
  5. The really tough positions are everywhere, because, the Mets have a five-man bench, one of whom they'd rather not put on defense anywhere. So the real issue isn't whether Escobar is the third-string shortstop, but who plays third when he goes in there? Only one guy is backing up all three infield slots. Right now they are platooning Guillorme and Escobar. If they swap one out on a pinch-hit assignment in the seventh (which they've done), then we're gonna see Nido or Alonso or someone at third if McNeil takes a pitch off of his ankle or something. American League managers are used to playing with this miniscule margin of error, so I'm sure Buck is as comfortable there as anybody, but I don't gotta like it.

  7. I don't know what kind of game they're going to get in, but the introductions should take over an hour.
  8. Transactions, 8/9/2022 [td90]Direction[/td90][td90]COMING[/td90][td90]Transaction[/td90][td90]Signed as Undrafted Amateur Free Agent out of Georgia Tech[/td90][th]Position Group[/th][th]=#FF8000]Relief Pitcher[/th][td90][/td90][td90][fimg=90]https://ramblinwreck.com/imgproxy/IWL9rndq1UFWhAHVx9XnYfwopUfYUBpnvfP3_K6HKhE/fit/2500/2500/ce/0/aHR0cHM6Ly9yYW1ibGlud3JlY2suY29tL3dwLWNvbnRlbnQvdXBsb2Fkcy8yMDE5LzAxL0JhcnRuaWNraUxfUGhvdG9EYXlfMTExNjIxX0RLLTM4Mi03NDF4MTAyNC5qcGc.jpg[/fimg][/td90][td90]Name[/td90][td90]Luke Bartnicki [fimg=50]https://thecranepool.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/US-flag.png[/fimg][/td90][td90]DoB[/td90][td90]1/7/00[/td90] [td90]B/T[/td90][td90]L/L[/td90][td90]High Level[/td90][td90]Division I+ (2022)[/td90] It's interesting that the Mets sign a catcher out of Georgia Tech with their first pick, though he's more of a hitter who catches than a catcher per se. And then they go out after the draft and sign one of his classmates with an 11.37 ERA, thinking, you know, maybe he wasn't in such a good situation for his talent to come through.
  9. Naquin is probably ahead of McNeil in center, seeing as he's played 200+ games in center in his career. I feel blissfully certain that we won't see Vogelbach in center. Escobar indeed is the team's third-string shortstop. After that, let's hope not to find out.
  10. No, he fell apart a few outings before that, but for some reason, Bobby Valentine kept starting him until he got over the finish line.
  11. A solid rotation were they, for half a season. Melted down like Chernobyl in the second half, if I correctly recall.
  12. You'd think I'd remember that. I'm guessing that's Leiter/Trachsel/Estes/Astacio/D'Amico?
  13. With an occasional stopover in Portland for Game Two of a doubleheader. Well done, each and all.
  14. Now that we've had two+ times through the rotation as it was meant to be in spring, we can build our mnemonic to remember the rotation and figure out who is pitching tomorrow without having to call Buck Showalter at crazy hours. Starting with Max Scherzer, who started the team's first game after the All-Star break, the rotation seems to be looping around as Scherzer-deGrom-Bassitt-Carrasco-Walker, or SDBCW. So, just remember, "Subtle Distinctions Bring Clean Work!" Unless you've got something better. https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/453286/headshot/67/current>https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/594798/headshot/67/current>https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/605135/headshot/67/current>https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/471911/headshot/67/current>https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/592836/headshot/67/current>

  16. Yeah, he was digging a hole with his tongue as recently as last week. There's always been a path back for Rose, and he has always opted not to take it.
  17. MLB should have a Roger Clemens Award for Most Shameless Under-the-Bus Throwing.
  18. Why is Wyoming The Equality State? Though lovingly referred to as the “Cowboy State,” Wyoming's true nickname is the “Equality State.” And for good reason. On December 10, 1869, Wyoming passed the first unconditional law in the U.S. permanently guaranteeing women their inherent right to vote and hold office.

  21. The Age of Adonis is upon us.
  22. Glad to see Lindor get some rest, but I was hoping we'd get to see Escobar at short for once. Gotta be ready.

  24. How a team or player compares to pre-season projections isn't particularly fair to a manager who outperformed expectations the year before. If a skipper takes over a team expected to win 72 games and he wins 98, a quick analysis would say that that this manager did a good job. A very good job. A closer analysis would likely show that quick and dirty one to be likely correct. He or she's got a good chance of winning Manager of the Year. But then, if the team wins 92 the next season, has this manager somehow screwed up? Is this skip not still getting more out of the team than external analysts believed could be gotten? The analysts adjusted their thinking between seasons and decided there was a lot more talent there than previously seen, but is that in any way fair to the manager?
  25. "A leaping José Barrero" are not the saddest of possible words.
