  1. I stayed up replaying this game in my mind. Twice failing to get the runner in from third with less than two outs, including in the 10th. Two injured-or-not-injured infielders in one inning. The send from third? Was it a tough ask of Marte? Sure! Did he have a better chance scoring then than Canha would have driving him home? Probably? The play at the plate — Nido had four options: Go get the throw on a fly and dive back for the tag. Go get the ball on a short hop and lunge back for the tag. Take the ball on the in-between hop and slap down the tag. Back up, take the ball on the long hop, hope it doesn't hit the runner, and lunge forward for the tag. No option is great, and he chose number three, but (a) he had more time than he realized, and ( that being so, he tried to make the catch and tag in one motion and gakked. I was a terrible catcher, so I judge lightly and reluctantly. I also know these choices are forced to be made with a pointless and ambiguous rule bouncing around in the back of their heads. But catchers on championship teams gots to find a way to make those plays. The Phils played tighter defense over 10 innings and it won them the game. Also, I wish Guillorme was just a stitch faster.
  2. By the way, crappy broadcast and a tough loss, but a heckuva thread, folks.

Anyone want to tell me why it's dumb to save your closer for the 10th inning when you know there's going to be a runner in scoring position (and if the guy who starts the 9th allows a baserunner you can always bring in the closer earlier, of course)? Yeah, you're not wrong. I wanted him for both innings, but the 10th and maybe 11th is fine also.

  5. That fat strike zone puts up behind the eight-ball.
  6. Robertson is going to his neck a lot.
  7. Joey Cora lying on his face in front of a sliding Vogelbach looked frightening.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: Risky to go to Vogel in a GiDP situation ... but I approve And now Vogelbach is the "ghost runner" with only McCann on the bench (of course, he could use a pitcher). Hard for Buck to anticipate that, but yeah. Use a pitcher, and McCann becomes your DH as the last guy off the bench. And their best baserunning pitcher is deGrom, who I imagine is being kept behind plexiglass.
  9. I stick with Diaz here. But the game isn't engineered for that anymore.
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: Not sure I approve of the send though. Also, a fade-away foot slide would have been a better choice for Marte. Or maybe a flip.
  11. Wow. This fundamentally flawed Phillie defense was sure well positioned for that play.
  12. Looking forward to deploying Vogelbach at DH against Dominguez, as Marte leads off with a dubble.

  15. I realize they probably feel the personnel shortage to be too acute, but mentally, I was pinch-running Bassitt for Nido. Not sure any pitcher would've done much better than Tomás in that situation, though.
  16. Gosuke Katoh pinch-hit for mid-game for Syracuse.
  17. Its been a fat strike zone this evening.
  18. Naquin first-pitch swinging after Canha's walk = not bright. AppleTV+ announcer calling him McNeil = not brighter.
  19. Seems like the Mets aren't even hitting it to the outfield that much.
  20. Good time for the Mets to strike here.
  21. =TransMonk post_id=103633 time=1660351553 user_id=71] I may add that Floyd quote to my LinkedIn profile.
