  1. Yeah, as I said, I'm behind him. I guess the September 1 post-season roster deadline has been pushed back a few games this season, but he has to get a callup in the next weekish to be eligible. The only problem with that is that (I think) they are pretty much out of players with options, and virtually all their backenders and reserves right now are veterans who would have to go through waivers. A key exception is Baty, so if they can send Baty down a day or two before the deadline, call up Vientos, and recall Batyman as soon as the rosters expand, it should give them some good options.
  2. Asdrubal, for now, is 10th all time with 195 homers. Venezuelan Sluggers Miguel Cabrera: 506 (DocTee) Andres Gallaraga: 399 (MFS62) ___________________ Bobby Abreu: 288 (DocTee) Tony Armas: 251 (MFS62) ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ Asdrubal Cabrera: 195 Venezuelan Speedsters Luis Aparicio: 506 (MFS62) Omar Vizquel: 404 (MFS62) Bobby Abreu: 400 (DocTee) ___________________ ___________________
  3. I find it works best if I break it down to three three-letter syllables: ZAS - TRY - ZNY.
  4. Melvin is just outside the money, tied for 12th in homers by a Major Leaguer from Venezuela, with 171. I don't have complete data, but I believe he is additionally the all-time leader in quintuplets by a Major Leaguer from Venezuela, with five. Six kids total.
  5. Well, that's horseshit. MRC is having as bad a season as the Angels, and we're thinking of putting the operation up for sale. (OE: Fixodent)
  6. Attrition and retention. These two forces go hand in hand when you start designating young men for assignment. b]Transactions, 8/25/2022
  7. The probable all-time most valuable player in Met Scrabble history has been claimed by the Angels, which sort of sounds more tragic than it should. https://editorial01.shutterstock.com/preview-440/12856475q/61725bf6/Shutterstock_12856475q.jpg> Lefty relievers are certainly a commodity.
  8. That would be impressive. The Mets are going to have a lot of work in front of them this offseason just retaining (or not retaining) their own free agents.
  9. El Gato Gran is correct. Is anybody else playing? Venezuelan Sluggers Miguel Cabrera: 506 (DocTee) Andres Gallaraga: 399 (MFS62) ___________________ Bobby Abreu: 288 (DocTee) Tony Armas: 251 (MFS62) ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ Venezuelan Speedsters Luis Aparicio: 506 (MFS62) Omar Vizquel: 404 (MFS62) Bobby Abreu: 400 (DocTee) ___________________ ___________________
  10. Nobody beats The Wiz for capturing ephemeral Mets in the team colors, or at least fabricating semi-convincing frauds. https://www.tcdb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/62139/62139-264Fr.jpg>
  11. Yes, Tony Armas, father of Tony Jr. and brother of Marcos, makes our list with 251 homers Venezuelan Sluggers Miguel Cabrera: 506 (DocTee) ___________________ ___________________ Bobby Abreu: 288 (DocTee) Tony Armas: 251 (MFS62) ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ Venezuelan Speedsters Luis Aparicio: 506 (MFS62) Omar Vizquel: 404 (MFS62) Bobby Abreu: 400 (DocTee) ___________________ ___________________
  12. I think the greater concern with Vientos right now has been his strikeout rate. But I'm a-guessing we'll see him soonly enough.
  13. Baldwin's own Steve Dillon is https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/steve-dillon-mets-old-timers-day-kxlxa9nvpsyched to get back on the mound for Old Timer's Day. “I play racquetball and I belong to a club,” Dillon said. “And the guys that I play ball with are ballplayers. Not professionally but they played [in] college or high school and I am throwing the ball to them. Just so if I get a chance, an opportunity to get on the mound, I at least will present myself, that I was a pitcher for real.” As I was growing up in The Rock, struck dumb whenever Suzie Sadecki was near, the guy who would be my college roommate was checking in at St. Christopher's in Baldwin, blushing as he was seated next to Steve Dillon's daughter.
  14. Among Venezuelan-born MLB players, Tony Armas, Jr., is tied for 209th with zero home runs. He did, however have one triple.
  15. Ah, but what the hell? Bobby is indeed a double-edged sword of Venezuelan-ness. Venezuelan Sluggers Miguel Cabrera: 506 (DocTee) ___________________ ___________________ Bobby Abreu: 288 (DocTee) ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ Venezuelan Speedsters Luis Aparicio: 506 (MFS62) Omar Vizquel: 404 (MFS62) Bobby Abreu: 400 (DocTee) ___________________ ___________________
  16. One guess per post, Homes.
  17. We open strong, nailing our two leaders, who happen to lead their respective categories with the same exact figure. Venezuelan Sluggers Miguel Cabrera: 506 (DocTee) ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ Venezuelan Speedsters Luis Aparicio: 506 (MFS62) ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________
  18. Wow. All the players are on the stage.
  19. DON'T SWING AT THE FIRST PITCH!!
  20. Vogie may need some time off if he's a pulled hammy waiting to happen.
