  1. "Take that, Phillies!" — Mrs. Edgy
  2. Also, the Mets are trying to set the modern popout record, with the first five batters popping into the books.
  3. MLB.tv commercial sells the shift-banning rule in a commercial featuring baseball legends Joey Votto and ... Collin Cowgill.
  4. That's five straight games without allowing a run in the first!
  5. Profiles can deceive, but I'ma say Cleon Jones, Tom Seaver, and Jerry Grote. That's probably Koosman's butt on the right, as he was on deck, and his second number looks like a 7.
  6. Welcome back, Neato! Here's to his new eyes!
  7. The answer to that is that the ballpark won't be what generates money for the state and municipality. The gambling will be.
  8. Has Kodachrome film been reintroduced? I had thought production was discontinued in the aughts or something. I am indeed heartened to hear of a revival of film-based photography.
  9. I didn't know which is more accurate — to compare the teams on the same date of the year, or to compare the teams through the same number of games. The former is distorted because the 1962 Mets started the season later in the year, and caught up in games played along the way. The latter is kind of deceptive because the 1962 Mets played two fewer games, and so the A's season will continue after the Mets' is completed. Here it is both ways, and it's not looking good for the A's either way. Alan Trammel's 2003 Tigers — the last team to make a run at the Mets' record — are included to make the comparison more interesting and to give the fluctuations of the season a little context. 10. Also, the Pads picked Joey Fuego in the fourth round.
  11. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=127018 time=1685531992 user_id=68] I'm totally with FK here. They're trying to make a tight two hour movie, like always. If the story could be told without the 9/11 tragedy, it should. The Chad Bradford factual alteration makes perfect sense from a movie storytelling perspective because Bradford epitomizes the sabermetrics philosophy adopted by the A's: the unorthodox looking pitcher who is nevertheless, extremely effective stat-wise. So the scriptwriters had Oakland acquire Bradford for 2002 to better demonstrate the A's philosophy shift. Very few true story movies are 100% accurate. I watched Bohemian Rhapsody last week and Queen was performing Fat Bottomed Girls years before the song was actually written. This week I saw Black Mass, which absolves practically the whole Boston FBI other than two agents, of complicity in the Bulger scandal and ignores entirely that rogue agent Connoly was also on the take. Makes you wonder what Connoly's motivation was. Moneyball is about 20 years old and I've never heard anybody mention the missing 9/11 angle. It would've needlessly cluttered the movie.
  12. If you're under 50, does KODAI CHROME make any sense/have any resonance? That asked, I'm probably still giving The Post the win there, whatever the answer.
  13. [Anthony Kay is trying to login]
  14. Transactions, 5/28/2023 [th]Direction[/th][td90]COMING[/td90][th]Transaction [/th][td90]Acquired from MIN for Unknown Compensaiton and Assigned to Syracuse[/td90][th]Position Group [/th][th]=#BF80FF] Infielder[/th][th][/th][td90][fimg=90]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/643603/headshot/67/current[/fimg][/td90][th]Name [/th][td90]Tyler White [fimg=50]https://thecranepool.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/US-flag.png[/fimg][/td90][th]DoB[/th][td90]10/29/90[/td90][th]B/T[/th][td90]R/R[/td90][th]High Level[/th][td90]MLB (2019)[/td90] Another mysterious transaction here that went down in recent days. The transaction boards are describing him as an outfielder, but while he has played eight games in left in his career, he's actually an infielder. He's in fact an infielder of the Juan Uribe variety, a guy who plays mostly on the corners, with the sort of gummy-like build that makes it surprising that he's sometimes used in the middle of the diamond, but he is. He's also like Uribe in that he's the type of hitter that Keith says, "Doesn't get cheated up there." He swings real hard, and while he mostly doesn't elevate, the power is there when he does. Lots of big league experience, but none of it in this decade. He's certainly long in the tooth, but he has the best hitting track record of any of the veterans at Syracuse, with a lot of minor league seasons over .900 in OPS. His acquisition, along with that of [CROSSOUT]Gobbo[/CROSSOUT] Foggo above, makes me think they are shoring up for a big consolidation trade they are working on.
  15. =metirish post_id=127006 time=1685496707 user_id=72] Nice and tidy win
  16. David Robertson was on the mound when the Mets completed their big comeback against the Phils — the one they showed in the opening featuring two Canha homers. Here's to him giving more to us tonight than he was able to take from us last season.
  17. Shouldn't Harper be coming off the bench here?
  18. No, Nido probably starts one of the next two games.
  19. I feel like we got off a big replay review schneid there.
  20. Even more impressed to see Ecobar get the escobig hit!
  21. Kinda impressed to see Buck letting Escobar escobat here.
  22. I'm all for crediting McNeil with a sacrifice there. I'm not sure it should be controversial. His went for a win-win strategy. Just like a sac fly. You're not explicitly trying to make an out, but going for a hit in a manner that embraces the secondary outcome of an out that advances. Give him his credit. People have been laying down bunts forever that way. Carlos Beltran loved that play. Make the sacrifice, but try to get a hit out of it if you can.
  23. Hey, wow, we're in the seventh.
  24. Phils now 1-for-18.
  25. He sort of has the batting stance I'd imagine for an anti-government militant, too. All elbows and knees. Like he has a huge, imaginary chip on his shoulder. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2023/05/screen-shot-2023-05-30-at-8.24.52-pm.png> Strong, healthy butt, though.
