Well, Wander Franco is working Kimbrel hard.
-
Alonso should've bunted.
-
And he finished the double-play and he bats third in the ninth inning.
-
Hader comes on in the eighth? Does that mean Kimbrel is lined up for the finish?
-
Rob Thompson: "Olson, you're in for Freeman at first." Matt Olson: "Looks like I get to replace you again, Freddie." Freddie Freeman: "Eat shit, Matt."
-
Alonso and third-string catcher Einar Diaz are all that's left of the NL bench.
-
Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: This is a depressing ASB, with the wrong Met selected only as a pity pick and Senga there as a replacement. There's no breakout Mazzili here from our club. The black pants look like skinny jeans 👖 Mebbe, but Breakout Mazzilli came off of the bench in the late innings to win it, and that's just what I'm counting on Bustout Alonso to do.

Thank you Baseball-Reference for including a bunch of National League teams in their debut grid, along with the Yankees, who are, of course, memorable for all the wrong reasons, but memorable nonetheless. Also, 200 hits is a tricky metric. Two hundred hits isn't usually the province of great hitters, but very good hitters, or possibly good hitters having very good-to-great seasons. Great hitters don't typically get enough strikes or chase enough balls to get to 200. [FIMG=600]https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2023/07/screen-shot-2023-07-11-at-1.28.54-pm.png[/FIMG] Rarity Score: 68 I was close to putting Juan Samuel or Richie Ashburn in as my 200-hit Phil, but played it safe with Rollins — rightly so in the case of Samuel, as it turns out, but Ashburn pulled it off three times.

We tried to get a photo of Colin Houck in his baseball uniform, but he's too shy-to-shy. Firstly, he's a two-way player at multiple levels. He went to Oklahoma State looking to play both baseball and football, but it's only after he quit the football grind after two seasons that his baseball profile improved. This got him drafted as a pitcher/third-baseman by the Orioles with the third overall pick in 2022. But Baltimore saw something they didn't like in his physicals, and they threw him back. Switching to outfielder/relief pitcher, he had a strong Big 12 season for OSU. He was playing well enough to dispel most health concerns until he crashed into a wall in April, injuring his MCL. He returned to finish out the season, with strong power, but middling average. It's hard to say how the Mets will use him, but we're lining him up with the outfielders for now. Kade Morris has the look of a guy for whom it's been a little to easy. His teeth are seriously white, his hair shag is on point, and his tan is an all-American look without being soft enough that you know his mother made sure he used sunblock for his games with his travel team. We fear the realities of pro ball are going to hit him smack in the face. He has a good chance at a decent career as a #4 starter/journeyman, but we sense a future that may knock that smile off his face a few times. Oh, let us be wrong. Extra points for Austin Troesser for putting an indy-band brick-wall photo out there for the likes of us to grab. We see a healthier guy who will be able to take what baseball dishes out, because he's got his gaming and guitar interests to round him out. Noah Hall may or may not be the only player of color the Mets have drafted so far this season. Our sources are trying to confirm. Lastly, Stetson could stand to use a little less glowing radioactive waste in their players' profile shots. You're green. We get it.

After I run out of turns with my board half-filled, I want the remaining tiles to be turned over one by one, revealing the most popular answer, a la Family Feud, with the studio audience reading along in exasperation. HOST: "Show me ... our Padre/Brewer!!" (tile flips) AUDIENCE: "HUNTER RENFROE!!" HOST: "Hunter Renfroe. Thirty six percent of correct respondents answered Hunter Renfroe." CONTESTANT: "And I hate them all, Eric." HOST: "He also played for Tampa Bay." CONTESTANT: "Now you're just being cruel." HOST: "Are you sure you follow this game?" CONTESTANT: "Eat shit, Eric." HOST: "Show me ... our Oriole/Mariner!!"

I swear to God, if one more of these things includes Tampa Bay, I'm gonna start breaking stuff.

Terrapin Mets include ... nobody? Reliever Adam Kalorak had a decent career after the Mets released him as a minor-leaguer. Recent alum Hunter Parsons is currently bouncing between AA and AAA. There's a good chance he takes the hill as a Met. -

Round 4c selection A.J. Ewing, shortstop out of Ohio's Springborough High School is the guy I'm going to keep an eye on. He looks like a troubled kid with a lousy father. He probably moved in with his high school coach's family, and they finally convinced him to stop fucking around with that hot rod and focus on baseball, but it's still in his mother's garage and he swears he'll get it back on the road some day. He relates to his coach's daughter like a baby sister, but all her giggly friends are not-so-secretly really into him. He keeps them off-limits, though, because he's still got a code and he doesn't want to ruin the good thing he's got with his coach's family. That doesn't mean he won't go at it with the girls he meets at the ragers down by the bridge, but if you tell the coach about those, he'll fuckin' kill you. He's got a weird-but-consistent ethic that way. Like, he'll beat the shit out of a guy for just looking at him wrong — a guy who has 30 pounds on him, mind you — but then he'll end up looking after the guy's cat while he recuperates, apologizing to the guy's mother, and possibly making friends with the guy afterwards. Two-way terror Nolan "Young Men and Fire" McLean, a 6'4" righthanded pitcher/outfielder out of Oklahoma State, is your third Met pick! Show 'em what you've got, Cowboy. You know it's a good pick because all the draftniks are high-fiving Mr. Met as Dan O'Dowd says the Mets "really didn't get penalized at all for going over that first-round sheshhold." [FIMG=550]https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2023/07/screen-shot-2023-07-10-at-12.30.52-pm.png[/FIMG]
