  1. If I ran the team, they'd be 185-0, have dozens of hit records from this year alone, and be dressed like The Baseball Furies. The pitchers would bat, the uniform elements would be sewn on, and the manager would be a mute German guy named Ernst. Also, no "Piano Man." I figure fans would be OK with me banning that, because we'd be 185-0, and they'd also be crazy about Ernst.
  2. Somebody has to get tapped, and until quite recently, it didn't look like anybody was interested in stepping up. Still though, the choice is not obvious. Still though, somebody's got to go. 3. Things have been noticeably less R-Rated the last couple of days, with Jeff McNeil neither starting nor appearing off the bench in any of the games in the Nats series. It's curious. I've been following through the radio, and the booth hasn't really discussed his situation. I don't know if he's been seen on TV or any of the local papers have been writing about him. He's sure noticeable by his absence though. For better or for worse (and it's been mostly the latter this season, with him currently rocking an Ordóñezian .616 OPS), the guy is big part of the team's character. I mean, there'll be a new character without him — a life beyond the red ass — and you sure can't argue with the outcomes of the last three days. 4. I'm not confused by it.
  5. The general restraint is that you can't trade a dude in the first half season of a multi-year contract. But J.D. is only signed for a single season, and it'll be past a half season by the time this trade urgency comes to a head, if indeed it does come to a head.
  6. The Nats have a runner on second!
  7. You shouldn't underestimate me. I can shop like a fiend.
  8. Severino has a chance to do one of those things where the same guy who pitches the first inning pitches the other eight innings. Is there a term for those things?
  9. It'd be nice to get McNormal into this game so he can get a couple of swings before London.
  10. Nido has gotten through waivers once, for whatever that's worth. I imagine that they are shopping both guys aggressively right now.
  11. Mets have a real chance to demoralize the team just ahead of them.
  12. FRANCISCO LINDOR FOR THIRD-STRING CATCHER!!
  13. Mets play a lot more sharply when they have a tight window.
  14. Tyrone Taylor making the most of his unexpected start with the suddenly tripling Mets.
  15. Alonso has a nice future as a goaltender.
  16. While Rick Lancelotti does have a son named Joseph, this is a different Joey with a different dad. When not pitching, Joey likes to play a little country music on his guitar.
  17. No, neither Nido nor Torrens have any options remaining. Hudson was signed back in April. The only thing new here is that he's being included in the London taxi squad as an emergency catcher.
  18. The next most vulnerable Met (with regard to being an ex-Met) is ... Narváez' replacement Luis Torrens, we suppose, what with the impending post-London return of Francisco Álvarez. But with all the playing time Torrens has been seeing recently, we suppose Tomás Nido is not sleeping soundly.
  19. The factors feeding into the decision are going to change drastically every day. They changed drastically with his ugly 0-for-five on Monday. They changed drastically again when he went 2-for-5 with a homer last night. The main factors, of course, we have little knowledge of, and that's the matter of what kind of deals are or will be available over the course of the middle of the season. I'm just hoping the Mets take Game Three of the series this afternoon.
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: A lot of Luis Torrens lately, huh? Even more Iglesias. It's not like McNasty's particular problem has been lefthanders, but apparently he's being embargoed against them, and maybe more broadly than that.
  21. My first thought is "Where is the according to sources phrase?" I mean, he doesn't even say they could shop them. He says they will shop them. There's no real risk there, as who knows who wasn't shopped among those not dealt, but Nightengale is a pro, and he's just right out there announcing the future.
  22. Last night's combined no-hitter for the Cyclones over the Aberdeen IronBirds was the first nine-inning no-no in team history.
