  2. Hey, there are two teams in this game!
  3. Hey, one of those runny things!! That's about as far as a person can hit one and not get a homer.
  4. Catcher Danny Jansen has, in a sense, outdone Joel Youngblood. Youngblood had been the only player to appear for two teams in one day. Jansen, not only did that, but he appeared for two teams in the same game. His is a little more technical as the two teams (Toronto and Boston) were finishing off a postponed game from two months earlier. He had swapped sides in the interim. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/sports/catcher-danny-jansen-becomes-first-player-mlb-history-play-both-teams-rcna168405https://www.nbcnews.com/news/sports/catcher-danny-jansen-becomes-first-player-mlb-history-play-both-teams-rcna168405
  5. Ugh. Four perfect innings.
  6. Yeah, get that hook out.
  7. And ... maybe Sevvy didn't need to stay in the game after all.
  8. Gary Cohen is DENIED and the Mets lose their challenge.
  9. The Mets seemingly are about to get a legalistic gift of an out.
  10. Taking that fastball with two strikes for strike three is a guy that's strugglin'.
  11. Luís' first allegiance, alas, is to sustaining his career.
  12. Guillorme is the second former Met in history to go on to face the Mets as a member of three different teams in a single season.
  13. Well, looking for help on the outside is only going to get the cause so far, anyhow. We're underway in Arizona.
  14. And Matt Olson immediately rips a double into the gap against Caleb Thielbar and the Braves take the lead. Help a brother out, Minnesota!
  15. Top of the seventh in Minneapolis. Twins rookie David Festa has given up only two hits, but the score is tied 1-1 as Festa gets pulled after giving up his first walk to Marcel Ozuna leading off the seventh.
  16. Puts the Nets and the Knicks under the same broadcast umbrella. If I'm Steve Raab, I'm constantly sniffing around the Nets' management, hoping to find an angle to get them to jump to SNY.
  17. Congratulations to Starling Marte, the Mets' latest #3 hitter. And some side congratulations to the Diamondbacks, for having so many lefties and switchies to totally stack that lineup against Luis Severino. 18. Sure, but if Zach Short hit at all, they might have won a game or two more also, but that's not where we're at. Where we're at is here, and nobody drove the team as far to get here, and that is to be commended.
  19. I think they should win games. I don't think characterizing Luisangel Acuña as a "one-trick pony" is accurate.
  20. I agree. Ready, shmeady. We're looking to fill a very small role with someone that hopefully will almost never be needed. It's just about depth and versatility. Luke Ritter is fine, as he can fake it in the middle of the diamond, but he would lack the speed tool that Acuña would bring, and Acuña won't cost a roster spot. Ritter's best tool is his bat, but he won't be getting to the plate much at all.
  21. On Setember 1, teams get to add two players to their squadrons, as 26-player limits expand to 28-player limits. Only one of those players can be a pitcher. The Mets presumably have to add Tylor Megill, sooner rather than later, to take the Paul Blackburn rotation spot over. Whether that means somebody (possibly Huascar Brazobán) gets bumped again or this one-more-pitcher spot is used for him is an open question. Sean Reid-Foley will also have to be activated or go through waivers shortly. Other eligible pitchers would be a returning, Eric Orze, or Grant Hartwig, or possibly a debuting Matt Gage or Tyler Zuber. With likely September addition Brett Baty out with a broken finger, Gary speculated that the 28th spot would go to Drew Gilbert, providing an athletic spark off the bench. But Gilbert isn't'on the 40, so adding him or a third catcher would take a roster transaction. I think they go for Luisangel Acuña. He's got the speed that could steal a game, he fills the sixth-infielder role that has been vacant for about 11 weeks, and he gives you a little bit more versatility in the outfield. Other batsmen on the 40-player roster include outfielders DJ Stewart (who now is mainly an insurance policy for Jesse Winker), and Alex Ramirez (who hasn't hit enough to graduate from AA yeet).
  22. Yes, you can.
  23. Alonso's eyes get too big with the bases loaded. He'll chase all night with ducks on the pond.
  24. Widowed barber, downish and somewhat outish, is forced to take a young woman on as a partner in order to keep his shop open. Despite their odd-couple bickering, they help each other get their respective **** together. [fimg=550]https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/413Cdn5vnKL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.jpg[/fimg]
  25. Hey, with two outs, the Diamondbacks send up Luís Guillorme!! The third team he's played against Mets as a member of in 2024. And that's ballgame!! NO WALKS!!!
