  1. =ashie62 post_id=169038 time=1725669524 user_id=90] How can the Reds expect much from a pitcher named Buck Farmer
  2. Yeah, I'm not sure coming in standing up was the smartest move, but it sure worked out for Pete. Did you see Iglesias pop up like a ninja after sliding in to home plate himself? And ... shit! ... McNivilly is hurting.
  3. They really aren't touching Williamson, are they? No hits off the guy, and I'm not recalling seeing any hard-hit balls. Thank goodness for openers.
  4. Yeah, it's weird to see him not get the most out of an at-bat. Nice to get that double-play back in the top of the next inning. Elly can really fly down the line, and they got him by a hair.
  5. Still weird to play the Reds and not see Joey Votto and his barbwire scruff over at first.
  6. I guess it's partially a product of him being kinda small, but T.J. Friedl's glove looks huge. Like, Charlie Brown huge.
  7. After being on the Interstate for most of the first third of the season, there's a chance Lindor ends up in the league's top 10 in batting average. He's about 16th right now, and while it'll take some real climbing over the final weeks of the season, he's been climbing and climbing and climbing all summer.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: They're not mutually exclusive. No, he's right. Only one thread per autumn, thanks to that damned Biden.

  10. Brilliant. They're tumbling like dominoes.
  11. Indeed he does, and he may well yet reclaim his role in the rotation. It's a moving target, subject to edits as new information becomes available.
  12. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=168946 time=1725582946 user_id=68] So Ohtani can't win the MVP award if he wins the Hank Aaron award? Is that what the guy is saying?
  13. The idea is that the notion that denying Ohtani the MVP Award based on his lack of defensive contribution should not be considered a denial at all, as there is an award set aside for outstanding offensive player that considers only offense, and that award should be considered as prestigious as the Cy Young Award, and the idea that the MVP is the offensive equivalent (or "everyday player" equivalent) of the Cy Young Award, that is seemingly still maintained by some voters, should be tossed out with the trash. Ohtani appears to be a runaway favorite of the Hank Aaron Award, and that's to be celebrated, and we all should look forward to a hardy race for the MVP, for which he is surely a candidate for as well. But unlike the Hank Aaron Award, his lack of defensive contributions should be understood to be a meaningful factor in measuring his performance. At least, I think that's what's there. I seem to be inferring a lot.
  14. Well, I had him skipped for Friday, but if that means bumping him to Saturday, and not just jumping over him, then shut my mouth. How embarrassing to try to figure out the Braves starters at the end of the month and I can't even get this weekend's Mets starters right. OE: Try this 'un. 15. The table below is highly speculative, based on the notion that all teams will stay within the sequence of pitchers they currently are on, giving guys an extra day if there is a day off, rather than skip a weaker guy. That notion is hardly reliable. Cincinnati's rotation is a mess — with Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott both currently out — and they haven't announced any starters at all for the Mets series, taking it day to day. Toronto has both Monday and Thursday off in the same week, so they could easily move guys around, and by the time the Mets face Atlanta, if the Braves have a playoff berth on the line, they'd be fools not to juggle things to get Max Fried in there instead of Schwellenbach or Morton. (The Mets are already using today's day off to skip Quintana this time through the rotation.) But this is how it sort of looks right now from this perspective, and we can make adjustments going forward. The Mets rotation order for now is MANAEA-SEVERINO-PETERSON-MEGILL-QUINTANA. Or MSPMQ. Or May Sovereignty Persist, My Queen! Know it! Live it!! 16. Not only are legacy players everywhere right now, but Darren Baker was the eighth adult child of a Major-Leaguer to debut in 2024 alone, following Griffin Conine (Jeff), Grant McCray (Rodney), Will Wagner (Billy), Jacob Wilson (Jack), Angel Martinez (Sandy), Jack Leiter (Al) and Jackson Holliday (Matt).
  17. Gotta beat the best to be the best.
  18. I don't know what that point was. Most evaluators remained resistant to whatever charms he brought. Even as he was productive every year in the minors, he was passed by Baty. He had his advocates, but I don't remember anybody ever saying that when Vientos arrives, we're all going to be drinking champagne with every meal and farting through silk undies.
  19. Sweating out how The Braves do against The Schlabotniks night by night isn't even necessary. The Mets are very much in control of their own destiny, and their remaining schedule takes them through Atlanta.
  20. The odd part is seeing how his fastball consistently gets faster and his slider gets sharper as his appearances progress. It's like he doesn't trust his body when he first comes out, but by the third batter, he's letting it rip.
  21. Get a good look. This may be the last you see of Rich Hill.
  22. If Álvarez continues the rally, we can sit Diaz down.
  23. And they ain't done. Terrific heroic restraint by Taylor.
