  1. Mary Poppins Returns (2018) sure took its time (52 years) before returning.
  2. If the Mets make the playoffs, and if they need get to a point where they need a fourth starter — and I'm not saying that's going to happen, but it's a possibility worth looking at — they pretty much have Manaea/Severino/Peterson lined up at the top of their rotation. Who do you think is looking like #4? No caveats. No hedging. Money must go down based on what is known today. [FIMG=257]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/04/Tylor-Megill.jpg?w=1024[/FIMG][FIMG=284]https://www.amny.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/AP23214028054149-scaled.jpg?w=1200[/FIMG][FIMG=284]https://cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/advancelocal/3LMEY774FVETBBYF3AZVKQXWP4.jpg[/FIMG]
  3. Well, that certainly doesn't look right. The Mets have announced their intent to use Severino/Peterson/Manaea in the Braves series, and the day off before the series allows them to skip Quintana to do just that, but that plan was announced before they opened their lead to 2.0 games over the Braves and Manaea revealed his September success to be reinforced over his last two starts. They may not find a need to go forward with that plan after all. And if it does go down that way, Q likely at least gets the opener of the Brewers series instead of Megill. If we don't hear anything else, we're going to have to plug him in for that one tomorrow. Things will start tightening up from day to day. I imagine it's a possibility that Quintana may get some bullpen time going forward, maybe as an option to take Alex Young's role. The team could end up really having interesting options among Quintana, Megill, and Senga as a fourth starter if and when this post-season happens for them.
  4. The Braves are still keeping their powder dry, keeping things guessy with regard to who might be starting more than a day in advance. The guesses are educated, sure, but they make no announcements because the Mets have put their backs pretty close to the wall, and they have to keep the option open of making a panic move. On the upside for Atlanta is that secondbaseman Ozzie Albies is killing it in his AAA rehab assignment, and is expected to be back in the Braves lineup tomorrow, when they open their series with Miami. It's a good period for NL East infielders, as Edmundo Sosa is returning from the Injured List for Philly, and hopefully, the Mets get Francisco Lindor back on the field. The Mets have now woken up every morning for two consecutive weeks in possession of a playoff-bound record. That means little until the word "clinch" is used, but it's a good, good feeling. 5. Frayed Knot wrote: Kimbrel's walks are up but not wildly [5.3 vs 3.8 career]. Being 36 with 15 seasons under his belt is the more likely culprit. Blass, as a 30 y/o, finished 2nd in the 1972 CY voting (to Steve 27-10, 1.97 ERA Carlton). Up to that point his career walk rate was 3.0. In '73 the walk rate shot up to 8.5, the ERA from 2.49 to nearly 10.00, and his wins fell from 19 to 3. He pitched once in '74, walking 7 in 5 innings, and his career was over. That's quite a different animal. Yeah, Kimbrel could walk every batter he faces in whatever career he has left, and still make it to the Hall of Fame.
  6. Brew Crew walks off over the Phillies. Milwaukee captures the division, and the Mets put a little heat on Philadelphia going into the series.
  7. A little-known fact is that Franciso Lindor's middle name is "Pipp."

  10. Deep tater tot conversation in the radio booth. Howie is accusing the Nats of giving the Mets a last-day-of-spring-training effort.
  11. Hey, a Darren Baker ground-rule double. Boooo! I mean Yayyyy!!! I'm not sure how I feel.
  12. Ottavino pitched yesterday, along with Brazobán and Alex Young, although it was his first outing in a week. I think Ryne Stanek is our most neglected asset right now. Hasn't appeared in the series.
  13. This is, like, 22 consecutive scoreless innings for our Opening Day starter.

  15. This is offense like it oughta be.
  16. Tyrone Taylor finds gaps. And when Tyrone Taylor finds gaps, Mets score.
  17. I'm not sure why that's an in-game matter, but DFA'ing Reyes for Gillie would leave them with four infielders.
  18. He's an Oriole designated for assignment. I'd guess that there's a pretty good chance he's already on the waiver wire, however, and probably a free agent in a few days.

If Brett Baty shows he's healthy enough to contribute, he could displace Eddy Alvarez on the roster, before or after the end of the season. With Ronald Acuña currently serving as the infielder who can play outfield, the main thing Baty has to convince the team is that he's the better offensive threat at the moment.
  20. =ashie62 post_id=170846 time=1726700776 user_id=90] Theoretically the Mets could win out and simplify the issues at hand
  21. After DFA-ing starter Cole Irvin and losing him on waivers to Minnesota, Baltimore has doubled down and DFA'd everybody's favorite chicken-posing, 440-game-saving, nine-time All-Star reliever. The Orioles are currently sliding backwards, and addition by subtraction suddenly seems to be the strategy they are embracing. [FIMG=500]https://www.baltimoresun.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/TBS-L-ORIOLES-A-042824-LAM-P16.jpg?w=620[/FIMG] The 36-year-old Kimbrel (nicknamed "Dirty Craig") had a strong first half, going 6-2 with a 2.80 ERA and 23 saves in 35 1/3 innings, striking out 53 while walking only 16. That's gone utterly sideways in the second half, with a record of 1-3 and a 10.59 ERA in 17 innings, whiffing 20 and walking 15. No saves in the second half neither. His last one was on July 7, losing his closer's role to Seranthony Dominguez, acquired in a July trade with Philly. Tried to refind his form in lower-pressure situations, but that hasn't worked out, which doesn't mean some other post-season contender won't give him a tumble over the remaining 12 days of the season.
  22. I'm a'hoping that, by the time the series with the Braves comes to pass, Atlanta will be less mindful catching the Mets, and more focused on staving off the Cubs. It would be perhaps helpful if the Cubbies were cooperating more, but most teams in the league have spent the last week or two gravitating toward five hundred. The entire league has gone 4-6, 5-5, or 6-4 over their last 10 games. In fact, because of that, the Mets can still lay claim to being the hottest team in the league, along with the Rockies(!!!). Today will be the second of what looks like four lefthanded opposing starting pitchers in five days. Stay sharp, righthanded Mets.
