  1. Capuano, Young and Gee are all in the Misch for the 4th-5th starting slots and the long-man position, right? Pat Figsch. And Perez, until he isn't. And Bonser. But Capuano and Young have to be considered the favorites for the rotation. Which means Misch must be the favorite for the long man slot.
  2. Nelson Mischeroa.
  3. Well, I can think of some sexier people to be in bed with. Now, this has to play out. If they're a party to this, they likely won't survive as owners. If they're not, they likely will. In the meantime, I'll be excited to get some new blood in here.

  5. Patrick Theodore Joseph Misch Pos: SP, RP; BR-TL (very rare) Born: August 18, 1981 in Northbrook, Illinois. (He'll be age 29 in 2011.) On that day, the soon-to-strike Mets lost to Montreal, 5-3, despite Lee Mazzilli showing signs of turning around his crap start with two doubles, and Mike Jorgenson pinch-homering in the ninth. Acquired: Selected off waivers from the Giants June 5, 2009. 2010 Stats: TmLgWLW-L%ERAGGSGFCGSHOSVIPHRERHRBBIBBSOHBPBKWPBFERA+WHIPH/9HR/9BB/9SO/9SO/BBBuffaloIL (AAA)114.7333.2323230210150.67150615411240996046191.1559.00.71.45.94.13NYMNL04.0003.82126200037.67432016441231001591031.24810.31.01.05.55.75TotalAll118.5793.3535292210188.341938170152811227047781.1731.00.71.35.84.36 Wife: Teresa. I can't find a photo, but her dad is a golf pro, which is probably like hitting the jackpot for a baseball player. Random Made-Up Nickname: I dunno. "The Shuttler," maybe. Namesakes: I couldn't find any, but while looking, I found a shot of this guy: Best Day in 2010: On October 1, Pat kicked copious amounts of National ass, giving up only four baserunners while fanning ten, pitchign one-run ball. You know Jerry must've attempted three or four bunts and spent time in between innings dreaming of bunts to come, but the victory that day went to Hisanori Takahashi when Josh Thole hit a walkoff homer (the third Mets catcher to do so in 2010) in the bottom of the tenth. That'll keep Pat out of the Hall of Fame. Pity. Jerry pitched him again two-days later in that extra-inning puke show that ended the season. Last Word: The Mets have signed a fistful of better alternatives to compete for the roll of lefthanded specialist. (Pat doesn't tend to put up great anti-lefty splits.) So he's going for the long-man/swing-man role, and is out of options. Looks like he's got to hold off Boof Bonser and maybe Oliver Perez. He may look disposable at first glance, but that strikeout/walk ratio is nothing to sneeze at. What do you expect of Pat Misch in 2011?
  6. I'm going to clip and present that coupon for the free front-end alignment.
  7. I think it's one of those things where you remember the virtues and forget the flaws, see it years later and say, oh, right... Hopefullly, George Plimpton isn't in the room at the time.
  8. Go, Officer Kurt. Meanwhiles, Nolan Ryan has hired his old catcher Jerry Grote as the color analyst for the Round Rock Express.
  9. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'm with Ben on the Gopher business. It was stupid. This should have been a movie about a poor kid weighing an invitation to privileged adult society against the cost to his soul. Which it was, it's just that the story got hidden behind the set pieces. And the boobies.
  10. I kinda liked Caddyshack as a movie about Danny, but really the whole Spackler subplot has nothing to do with the story except for the contrived gopher finish, and robbed from it, as good as Murray was at it. All the other oddballs play some kind of role in the arch of the story. Still has a lotta laughs but not a great movie altogether. It is strange that he's the protagonist, yet not featured in the film's marketing at all. DVD extras revealed it was clearly a script about him and his rivalries and interactions with the other caddies, but as the talent came on board, they started writing more action in the clubhouse and less in the titular caddyshack. Other things gleaned from the DVD extras: Jon Peters is as much a freaky over-the-top Hollywood jerkoff as Kevin Smith makes him out to be. This movie set the eighties standard for gratuitous boob shots. George Lucas lent them John Dykstra to create the gopher. Chevy Chase and Bill Murray had some bad blood from their SNL days and brawled on the set. Not included: Where Kenny Loggins pulled that insane vocal arrangement out of. Why Harold Ramis is the happiest guy in Hollywood when he hangs out with Bill Murray who seems to be the saddest. You get the idea that all those surreal juvenile punches sewn into it --- the caddies storming the pool, the mayhem at the yacht club --- are all Jon Peters. He's probably also responsible for the goofy symbolic nomenclature. Sarah Holcomb (Maggie) is also the actress who played the teenager who passes out on Tom Hulce in Animal House. Cursory research tells me Caddyshack was her last film and she retired before 20 --- drugged up and schizophrenic.
  11. People don't have good full years at AAA anymore. If he has a good half year, he's here, unless the rotation is bloody airtight. And that's it. Half season in Buffalo: 7-3, 3.11. Half season in Queens: 4-4, 3.92.
  12. Now how is Super Secret Seaver lasting beyond 4141? The whole system is out of order?
  13. I logged onto the Mets website as my wife called me from the next room. As I arrived at her side, the load finished and a press conf. clip played... something along the lines of "I just want to make clear that the matter of today's announcement will have no effect on the day-to-day operations of the Mets." Wifey starts cracking up and finishes the quote on her own. "You can be assured that Met managers will still make dumb decisions. That will not change. Players will continue to perform erratically, beat up their relatives, be arrested, and be rightfully charged with felonies. Fans need not fear that anything will change on that front."
  14. Which you continue to insist exists despite much evidence. The guy threw a one-hitter! Such damage!
  15. See, Sarah Holcomb and the robot gopher are more of what I watch movies for.
  16. Jenrry Manuel Mejia Pos: sP, RP; BR-TR Born: October 11, 1989 in in Tabara Arrisba, Dominican Republic, a year and a day after Fernando Martinez, and exactly one day before the passing of Joe Foy. Acquired: Signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent, April 4, 2007. Random Made-Up Nickname: Jenrry the VIIIth-Inning Guy. Namesakes: There can't be any. Best Day in 2010: In the minors, there was the seven innings of one-hit ball vs. New Hampsheah. Majors? I dunno. Let's go with two shutout innings against the Cubbies, his second such stint in three days at the time. Last Word: Terry Collins has stated his intent to see Mejia start 2011 as a starting pitcher for Buffalo. Some might take that as a dis of the previous regime, but Terry was in on last year's call for Mejia, if not necessairly known to be supportive. What do you expect of Jenrry Mejia in 2011?
  17. Still, though, half a star? I reserve that for 8mm bootlegs of I Am Curious Yellow.
  18. Class warfare plays out on the links of a private golf club --- or "gof," as they call it in Scotland. ESPN ranks this as the number eight sports movie of all time. Robotic gopher created by John Dykstra.
  19. If you can't afford to buy a piece of the Mets, maybe you can put up the scratch to live the elusive Shawn Green Lifestyle.
  20. A lot of that is playing itself out. My opinion on what I would do has changed a few times.
  21. I like that. It wouldn't save the season, but it'd be a nice little breakthrough for a 22-year-old with injurious seasons of late. Both he and Duda are lefty batters with harsh splits, so I think the first callup will depend on whether they need somebody who can play center. Martinez doesn't project there any longer, but he can apparently still hack it when needed.
  22. Sing for your Seaver.
  23. A town of peaceful farmers is tormented by a gang of outlaws, and recruits seven gunman to protect them.
  24. Escobar, smescobar. He's been compared to Escobar for too long. We'll see. Belief is that his legs will never be the same, but that he still has the potential to be a slugger with an arm. Escobar had one great season in low A. Good for him but he wasn't particularly young, and he had a catastrophic injury the next year --- playing only three games --- and was never much again. Martinez had always been young for his leagues and holding his own, but never getting a chance to star, but at the top levels, the injuries started accumulating. Yeah, they're both Latin American outfielders --- one Venezuealan and the other Dominican --- but let's try and broaden our frame of reference a little bit. At the age Martinez is now, Escobar hadn't even debuted for the Mets.
  25. I don't know where I stand. I'm just trying to see all the angles.
