  1. It's a thought, but he's talking about potentially putting someone on the disabled list, so Turner or Parnell (who hasn't pitched in several days despite a the team being pinched once or twice during that period) or Wright or somebody may have an unreported owie.
  2. I'm not sure either, but the bin was open, and I'm humble and experienced enough to know that worms can turn, so I put it into the bin until the sample size becomes more definitive.
  3. It's dramatic. It's almost like Baxter's playing for his big league life in game one.
  4. Good for Humber. I'm curious to see what he can do against big-league hitters.
  5. And sign Daniel Ray Herrera to an extension while you're at it.
  6. Mets: Coming off an off-season featuring losing one of their two marquee players to free agency, very little off-season transacting, and open talk of fan rebellion against an ownership team in a financial crisis over whether they can retain onwership. Average attendance: 32,420. Marlins: In a brand-new ballpark conceived with outside-the-box thinking. With new uniforms and new association with the city, after the city paid up big to retain the team with said new ballpark, with a big offseason of aggressive player moves, including signing said marquee player away from the Mets =#FF8000]Average attendance: 29,442.
  7. Weve said, Look, lets play out at least part of this season and see where we are. But, I honestly, at this point, cannot foresee David playing elsewhere. --- Sandy Alderson on NBC last night

  9. Should have realized such a challenge would bring Met Hunter out of hiding. Dean Chance is correct. Met Hunter, the next question is yours.

  13. Cecliani, Nieuwenhuis, Nimmo, sure. But these guys will need backups. That's real money, too! But a shattered foot and a detached retina... I know I would never be digging in with confidence again. Good luck, Seannie. See you on the front lines of the revolution.
  14. Only 25 plate appearances. Wish he talked it over with me.
  15. Nieuwenhuis 3.05 Bay 1.59 Niese 1.53 Wright 1.06 Byrdak 1.01 Thole 0.55 Ramirez 0.43 Rauch 0.42 Nickeas 0.36
  16. Well, we got Mulvey back, so...
  17. Yeah, Harper has had a poor start, and it encourages me to think that maybe we've got a better chance to get mid-season help from AAA than Washington does.
  18. Cool, PotG talk! (Though you may want to edit out your quotation of my vote, lest it count twice.) It does seem miserly and I apologize to the Pelfrey family for that, but there were a lot of net positive contributors, he didn't strike out too many, and he didn't help himself with the bat.
  19. With benches shorter and pitching changes more frequent, teams who fall behind tend to empty their benches pretty completely by the ninth. If they happen to surprise themselves by catching up by then, the defensive options become kind of funky.
  20. St. Lucie advances to 13-2, sweeping two from the Palm Beach Cardinals, having already opened up a 6.0-game lead in the Florida State League North Division. Amazin' stuff down south in the City that Always Sleeps. In game one, they went into the ninth with a 9-4 lead, but the Beachies rallied in the ninth, startling the St. Lucie faithful, but still leaving them with a 9-7 win to savor. Danny Muno got three hits, including two doubles, and Wilmer Flores collected his first homer of the year. After Yohan Almonte got chased in the first, it was largely a team attack with a total of 13 hits. In game two, Flores collected two more hits, Wilfredo Tovar three more, and Angel Cuan (one run in five innings) and Adrian Rosario (two shutout innings) combined to neutralize the Cardinal attack.
  21. Bingo advances to 8-7 with a 6-1 win over Portland. It's their third straight win and first series win. Mark Cohoon gave up one run in seven innings, fanned three, and walked none. Jefry Marte upped his average to .405 wit a 2-4 game.
  22. Herd rained out tonight, but worthy of mention is Matt Harvey's work last night: Six innings on the mound, three runs yielded as Syracuse bunched four hits and three walks. But he struck out 10 and got two hits and an RBI of his own. It was his first AAA win. Val Pascucci hit what is already his sixth homer, moving from first base to right field, back to first. Eight of his 17 hits have been for extra bases. Bobby Scales went 0-5 and his average dropped to .388.
  23. Pretty good for the Sox for a guy they grabbed off waivers from Oakland, who themselves grabbed him off waivers from Kansas City. Phil F. Humber, mastering the tricky art of falling up.
  24. Ceetar wrote: Terry, at least this is the way I saw it, was annoyed that he started giving up hits. Well, sure. Ceetar wrote: He seemed to infer that he's still "the closer"... He inferred it? From whom? He decides who is closer. ...but it sounded like he wanted to put Pelfrey back out there, but getting Francisco 'back on the horse' was important, and Francisco rolled out the "not getting enough work" excuse so that played in as well. I'm sorry. I don't understand any of this. The vibe I got from Terry about it was that he'll try to get him the work, and he knows he'l be upset he was pulled, but he has to perform to get work. But maybe I'm just hearing what I want to hear. Francisco? Pelfrey? I think it's clear Francisco is "still the closer." That has nothing to do with what Grimm was saying. He's saying that him being the "closer," in this situation, did not preclude Collins from lifting him while the save was still available to him. And that's awesome.
  25. Pelfrey 2.74 Tejada 2.08 Murphy 1.58 Duda 1.32 Hairston 0.48 Rauch 0.54 Thole 0.48 Byrdak 0.44 Turner 0.32 I'm treating Belt's double as an error and scoring it and the runs scored on it against Nieuwenhuis's record and not Chewie's or Francisco's. I'm also treating Hairston's slide into home as a key to the victory.
