1. Ball sure dying in left tonight.
 2. Well, the really bad news after that homer is that Ohtani is going to come up again.
 3. Let's keep this Taylor guy.
 4. Lives to pitch another day. Barely.
 5. Tommy Edman with the bases loaded is going to be a tough row to hoe.
 6. Four innings from the pen tonight is going to be a very tough row to hoe.
 7. Blackburn slinging in the dead of night!
 8. Mary Hart and Bert Sugarman enjoying themselves in their usual seats.
 9. Terrific first inning back. Even the one hit was more of an accident.
 10. Nobody noted the leadoff KABOOM! by Lindor. The batting eyes of Nimmo and Soto consecutively can really be a weapon to drive a pitcher crazy. Unfortunately Soto swung 2-0 and grounded into his hundredth double-play. Doubly unfortunate was that he again didn't bust it down the line, which came into play when the relay was offline.
 11. I would guess Syndergaard still has a comeback attempt or two in his future — possibly abroad. I don't think he ever married.
 12. Cowtipper, who needs to join the Mets Roster Central staff, has given us the skinny that Sean Reid-Foley — the first-ever hyphenated (and first Guamanian!) Met — has signed a minor-league deal way off with the Arizona Serpientes.

The team was already imbalanced between infielders and outfielders, and his presence just perpetuated it. He performed perfectly fine for the last guy on the roster, and should be applauded for such, but getting only 20 trips to the plate in his five and a half weeks with the team makes pretty clear how small his role had become. He was down to being little more than the designated pinch-runner by the time the Mets swapped him out for Jared Young, and that job probably should go to Luisangel Acuña, whose role has also diminished, and who is faster, younger, healthier, and more versatile. Transactions, 5/31/2025

[th]Direction[/th][td90]COMING[/td90]

[th]Transaction [/th][td90]Signed away from SFG and Assigned to Syracuse[/td90]

[th]Position Group [/th][th] Infielders[/th]

[th][/th][td90][fimg=90]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/681584/headshot/67/current[/fimg][/td90]

[th]Name [/th][td90]David Villar [fimg=50]https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2023/12/usa_m.png[/fimg][/td90]

[th]DoB[/th][td90]1997-01-27[/td90]

[th]B/T[/th][td90]R/R[/td90]

[th]High Level[/th][td90]MLB (2025)[/td90]

David Villar (no apparent relation to Jonathan), more or less replaces Jared Young in Syracuse. He profiles the same way — as a utility infielder, whose defensive skill set mostly limits him to the corner positions, but his offensive ceiling is understood to be too low to stick if he can't at least fake it in the middle infield. In a previous life, his name was Josh Satin, or Eric Campbell, or John Valentin or Tucker Ashford. Teams give these guys very little margin for error, and they are quickly swapped out if their bat goes cold. That said, his .860 career minor-league OPS suggests maybe a little patience with him might pay off for some team.
 14. It's news to me, but apparently, tapping your helmet is beyond the pale.
 15. He refused assignment to Syracuse and was signed by the Braves. He was quickly called up and has been sitting on their bench for four days waiting for an opportunity, so his life is pretty similar to what it was with the Mets. Had some nascent power we never got to see. Also that jersey number in that video is not what he wore with the Mets.

 17. He threw really hard, especially for a lefty. His real bugbear had been control though most of his career, but he was mostly on top of that with the Mets. If LOOGys were still legal, he'd be appearing in over 100 games per season for somebody, but did not like throwing strikes to righthanded batters.
 18. Sorry that's the way it had to go down, Roxx. Now go sweep The Dodgers.
 19. Fun game — see if you can tell which one is Reed Garrett and which one is Vincent Van Gogh! 20. He sure has a lot of composure.
 21. Clay Homey has pitched the longest game of his career. A problem with being Luisangel Acuña is that teams don't have to have a scouting report on you. They just hear your name and assume that you are too fast to sleep on.
 22. Keith is conflating Bram Stoker with Mary Shelley, and Gary is conflating Dracula with Count von Count.
 23. OK, a coupla things: Dracula is certainly not the only novel Bram Stoker wrote. Gone with the Wind ain't that great.
 24. The reason Soto is the one you commit all your resources to is that, even when his shit isn't working, his slump-proof walk tool is still providing value. That used to be true of Nimmo as well, and I hope it will be again.
 25. Fireworks happening during the game.
