The team was already imbalanced between infielders and outfielders, and his presence just perpetuated it. He performed perfectly fine for the last guy on the roster, and should be applauded for such, but getting only 20 trips to the plate in his five and a half weeks with the team makes pretty clear how small his role had become. He was down to being little more than the designated pinch-runner by the time the Mets swapped him out for Jared Young, and that job probably should go to Luisangel Acuña, whose role has also diminished, and who is faster, younger, healthier, and more versatile. He profiles the same way — as a utility infielder, whose defensive skill set mostly limits him to the corner positions, but his offensive ceiling is understood to be too low to stick if he can't at least fake it in the middle infield. In a previous life, his name was Josh Satin, or Eric Campbell, or John Valentin or Tucker Ashford. Teams give these guys very little margin for error, and they are quickly swapped out if their bat goes cold. That said, his .860 career minor-league OPS suggests maybe a little patience with him might pay off for some team.
