  1. Three pitches and good bye.
  2. Adam Greenberg digs in as a pinch-hitter. Um.
  3. I feel so ditched. Riding out the final DickeyDay alone. Dickey responds to the homer by fanning the side. Get some runs, you top-o'-the-order METS.
  4. Fuck, another solo shot. Let's go, METS!
  5. Two outs and runner at second, the Marlins walk Torres to pitch to Dickey. Looking to win it by himself, he whiffs. The game is official, so my hopes for a massive blackout and cancellation to delete that run from his ERA are dashed.
  6. Yeah, I think it'll be higher too. But I give 6/120 as the sort of numbers that'll get the Mets past the respect threshold and lead Wright's party to sit down in earnest.
  7. Scoreless into the fourth, until Gorkys Hernandez hits a solo homer. Puts win number 21 in jeopardy, but more critical are Dickey's chances at an ERA title.
  8. Jordany scheduled to play second base in winter ball, rather than outfield. Considering our desperate need for major-league ready outfield talent, I think he looks like a good trade prospect.
  9. Jay Bell, author of one of the very worst seasons in Mets history, loved every minute of it.
  10. Mizell would be a good one, but I don't think he ever gave enough of his innate goodness to crack the top 500. The correct answer is... Officer Stanley Jefferson.
  11. Trivia question: The other Met in the countdown that gets an occupational honorific is...
  12. Yeah, Cabrera hitting .326 vs. .328 hardly changes his case all that much.
  13. Well, I'd say that just because they aren't envisioned as starters doesn't mean they aren't worth scouting. Presumably teams have a lot of personnel available in southern Florida anybutts.
  14. The championships are certainly real. The idea that they can be particularly credited to him more than anybody else is highly debatable. Managers matter. On that we can agree. To what extent, where it can be measured, and how much that measurement is worth in dollars is where we fail to come together. I don't think folks even try. But I'm certain that the idea that managers who've been with teams that have won championships are definitively better than managers who haven't is wrong. Else, by all means, let's buy out Ozzie Guillen's contract from the Marlins.
  15. I agree. I'm still surprised that a triple-crown winner --- which hasn't existed since I was one --- could fail to win an MVP, but the facts support it.
  16. Absolutely nothing I've written here suggests it is my particular wish to have Terry Collins back in March teaching fundamentals.
  17. bmfc1 wrote: Edgy: nice graphic, but I don't agree and we're not going to. You'll get your wish as TC will be teaching fundamentals again in March. Please don't make up stuff.
  18. bmfc1 wrote: Keeping TC and his "hard working" staff around en masse is to me (but undoubtedly not to you) not a sign of acting wisely. I really think you have me wrong here. I'm rather neutral on the subject. I'm not neutral on the idea that Terry Francona's two alleged championships are all the reason one needs to hire him.
  19. Yes, I've seen emotions from management. Yes, I've seen signs of wisdom. And where I've seen the absence of wisdom, I've wished they've acted wiser, not more precipitously. Chasing after Francona based on his two championships, ignoring any other value concerns because "that's good enough for me" seems no wiser than chasing after Francisco Rodriguez and his 62 saves. And that was a disaster. The sort of disastrous decision that got them in this mess.
  20. ="Collin McHugh"]I love** that this artisanal French bakery and cafe is playing BET's best of 2004 playlist. (**hate)
  21. Wouldn't you have been frustrated at blowing a nine game lead with a 7-20 September? We're all frustrated. And I still hope the Mets step back from any immediate emotions and act wisely and dispassionately.
  22. Curiously, two Red Sox scouts -- maybe the only two scouts in attendance -- were at the Mets-Marlins game Monday night, and it's known the Red Sox seek help in the outfield, the rotation and at first base. The Mets don't have any outfielders to trade, not [sic] do they have an abundance of starting pitchers. Davis could be an obvious potential fit. Or, the writer may just be seeing what he wanted to see. The scouts may have been there to see Duda, or they may be looking at Familia. What's interesting is that the Shoppach-Beato deal may make these two beseiged franchises happy trading partners.
  23. I keepy Ikey too, but I'm a keeper. What do you like on the Sox that might lead you to change your thinking?
