  1. Interesting to see the outfielders batting 6-7-8.
  2. They're wearing the Norfolk hats and blue jerseys.
  3. Did SNIGH show the banner parade?

  5. Sure, but when he's the first starter in Met history to lay that big an egg in each of his first three starts ("Really?!" --- Steve Trachsel), then it's officially an issue. I'm trying to work with the idea that he should have been working out of the minors and it's still spring training for him, but that narrative officially ended this morning.

The Dodgers may be interesed in Scoscia, but do they really want him for 2013 and five years beyond? Folks were happy enough with Mattingly his first two years while he was seemingly working with less. It's no surprise that muscling up this year would produce a team that might not gel right away. It might not gel ever, but you'd think that Mattlingly bough some good will keeping the team steady through the ownership turmoil after Torre walked.

It would have been nice if Hernandez's partners were in that video room with him and said, "You know, it's your call. But if I've got to go out there with you and be damned by association when you don't spin your finger like you're supposed to, I'm going to tell the media after the game that we all begged you to reverse the call but you were pigheaded, and that we're all sick of your shit."

It's like watching Pelfrey in an off-year, only slightly less excruciating, because the damage comes a little quicker. Definitely thinking of junkballers in one of those ugly funks where their junk isn't fooling anybdoy. Trachsel on a bad run. Missing the middle chunk of last season, and missing most of spring training, maybe he should've opened the season on a rehab assignment instead of throwing those BS simulated games. But having lost Santana, the Mets were desperate to get any and all starters with MLB pedigree active as soon as possible. He's all yours, Dan Warthan. Hoefully the silver lining of falling behind early was a chance to get some of the non-contributors going. Recker, Carson, Lagares, and Brown all got some licks in. Maybe that'll lead to something.
  9. Hey! Homer for handsome!
  10. Rob Carson will do.
  11. That's a homer. Come on.
  12. Damn. They're playing McCutcheon again. That guy blows my mind. He's got the detachment of a zen master, and the powerful but incredibly lean physique of a world class sprinter. He's got this easy loping swing that seemingly has no internal violence but certainly executes external violence. He comes across as perhaps the most disciplined ballplayer in the league. He's already an MVP candidate, but I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to improve. He wore one long sleeve and one short one last night, like he's Allen Iverson or something, and I'll forgive him for that, because he's so damn polished a ballplayer. Polished and deadly.
  13. Looks like it. Sounds like a pretext to re-launch the Francisco Missile also.
  14. Mike Kerwick ?@mikekerwick 1m Collins said Familia won't pitch tonight. DL possible. #mets What happened to Jeurys?
  15. Campbell is hitting. They do have a second backup infielder. They just don't want to use him there unless they have to, but that's alright, because most of their infielders are getting it done, including the first backup infielder, and there's been work for him in the outfield and as a pinch-hitter, because, through no fault of his own, the team is weak there. Valdespin playing the outfield is to his credit. You don't want him in the infield, but evidence suggests that, as untrustworthy as you find his glove, Satin is actually more limited --- in talent and versatility. So is Flores. I think more logic is behind their roster than you're giving them credit for. They need more productivity from their outfield and they're trying different guys. That's logical.
  16. Players definitely can coach the bases. It's the standard with most minor league teams.
  17. We keep changing issues here. Who is being lobbied for now?
  18. Ceetar wrote: That's fine, but you don't need both of them, and no matter if they're burying Satin or not, he's hit more than enough in AAA to be given a legitimate shot too( yes yes, he's 28 and no longer a prospect). Lagares has barely played there. But that's the OF thing. I'm not sure Jordany has talent. He has athleticism, which isn't the same thing. It can certainly have value in places, and the high-power/low-success PH role isn't a horrible thing, but It's not worth that much either. but even if you want to go by performance Baxter has enough time here to warrant more playing time, and he's been an above replacement level outfielder, which is apparently hard to come by on this team. You don't need Byrd, Brown, AND Lagares. Juan's probably the most 'prospect' of them, the fastest, and the best defender. Let Valdespin back him up in center. fine. But you don't need both Byrd and Brown then. Josh Satin bats righty, but if he's backing up Murphy and Ike that's fine. (except, like Turner he hits righties better. Valdespin may have range, but he seems to be a poor defender. And both times they had the option they went with Turner over him anyway. You really threw it all in there. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Marlon Byrd isn't at all likely to be a starting outfielder on the next Mets contending team even if, as hoped, that happens as soon as next year. F. that. The contender is right before your EYEZZ, baby.
  19. And my point is that, as tired as you may be, Satin probably isn't much of an improvement on Valdespin as the second backup infielder, seeing as they've been burying him at first most of the last two years.
  20. I imagine if Satin was bouncing around the diamond for the Mets, you wouldn't like him at any of those positions either.
  21. Sure, get me an improvement on Byrd. A Byrdie with a super arm or something. But I'd still want a righthanded hitter. I got a little hope that Brown might be that guy. And by the way, Hairston fans: .132 / .167 / .395 // .561 in 23 games, so he may be hitting the waiver wire pretty soon.
  22. It's hard to say. I mean, yeah, he's got to be better than Duda, as most everybody is, but rightfield is a harder call, as we aren't seettled on a particular player out there, and how much is range has deteriorated is up for debate. I generally think Byrd has been OK in right. I don't think what we're hunting for is another defensive replacement, or specialist of any sort. We have an outfield full of specialists, sort of. I guess Byrd is the closest thing to a generalist, as he's equally not particularly good at a lot of things. He's five-tool meh!
