  1. Photos 2 and 4 --- the dignity of necks.
  2. Man, cards (or 1969 yearbooks) with disembodied heads just creep me out. Give the guy the dignity of a neck and perhaps some shoulders.
  3. This comes from my young friend Patrick. Can't say I've read it yet, but the price is right and the proceeds go to Tuesday's Children, so I'm in.
  4. I figure we can break into some units and get this done by December holidays. W: [list:24oddce7][*:24oddce7]Zvon can head a team of two or three posters developing a front-of-card design theme that works in print.[/*:m:24oddce7] [*:24oddce7]Seawolf can head a team that designs the back.[/*:m:24oddce7] [*:24oddce7]Fairy can work on coordinating photography with other photographers.[/*:m:24oddce7] [*:24oddce7]Greg can lead a team providing editorial content for the backs.[/*:m:24oddce7] [*:24oddce7]Somebody else can locate a wildcat cardboard printer who'll run the thing off for us without asking questions.[/*:m:24oddce7][/list:u:24oddce7] We'll do everybody from Wright down to Vic Black. If the spirit moves us we can rope in coaches, trainers, broadcasters, and do a set in Spanish. We put our egos aside, take our modest roles to heart, and it could be inspired. We'll have it done by mid December, and be in jail by the new year. It'll be awesome.
  5. What I'm thinking we should do is put get our photogs and designers and writers together and make a set of 2013 cards just for distribution among ourselves. And then call in our lawyers when MLB and MLBPA come gunning for us.
  6. Scared this is Omar. Blown up, it looks like an 11 on his uniform, indicating Ruben Gee? Yup, it was taken on No Numbers Day, apparently. No idea. Infielder.. I'm thinking it's Red before his hair grew out.
  7. Revisiting the mini-calendar. January Jason Bay: Released. February Jon Niese: Still alive. March Josh Thole: Traded. April Andres Torres: Non-tendered. May R.A. Dickey: Traded. June David Wright: Probably out for the season. July Lucas Duda: Injured/demoted. August Ruben Tejada: Injured/demoted. September Johan Santana: Out for the season. October Daniel Murphy: Still Daniel Murphy. November Mike Pelfrey: Non-tendered. December Ike Davis: Demoted/Injured.
  8. I just heard some office buzz that the Yanks may be calling up switch-pitcher Pat Venditte.
  9. Wade debuts giving up two in the ninth, blowing a save and taking the loss, a loss that ended the 51s season one game behind Oklahoma City (that noted Pacific Coast hotspot) in the race for the league's best reason. Still have a postseason to redeem yourself Corwin.
  10. Brooklyn bows out at the last moment and is eliminated. Four Mets affiliates have qualified for the post-season: Vegas, Binghamton, Savannah, and Kingsport.
  11. Oh, I think they might cut him. If nothing else, it allows him to shop for work, or start training for 2014. Tells the other guys that consequences happen and stuff.
  12. Howie says the players don't mind him at all because he gives a vocal call that the players can hear and then makes the visual call for the fans.
  13. What a messy mess. I, for one, welcome our new Haranging overlords. I guess these innings limits have to be a benefit all around the league to veteran pitchers on the fringes to get one last payday in September. Let's sign 'em all --- Laffey, Heilman, Sele... Fultz.
  14. Recker and Lutz need to go to baserunner's prison. How about heads in asses being a symptom of teams that get no sleep?
  15. EY needs to go to Bunter's Prison for that one.
  16. Satin may be slower than Flores... with his ankles taped.
  17. Hard to imagine him still on the ball team a week from now. Picturing him on the team at sunset isn't so rock solid. He's got the International and Eastern League playoffs on his side. Not much else.
  18. Bigger, Phil! I fucking want the the MLB logo to be BIGGER!
  19. I've made much of Gary Kolb, but Frank Lary is another guy who, if you punched him square across the jaw, you'd just be wasting your time hurting your fist.
  20. Forgot Ledesma made it out of the minors with the Mets. OOPS.
  21. Haute Cuisine sous chef quits in a huff when he doesn't get the promotion he was angling for, vows to go to Paris and learn from the greats. Fate intervenes when his father's sudden illness forces him to step in and take over the family business --- a greasy, messy storefront takeout Indian restaurant, and he realizes that despite his training, he isn't much for cooking the cuisine of his heritage. Pretty archetypal plot, with character types you'll perhaps recognize from other films, and a lot of players who will make you point and say, "Oh, it's that guy, you know, from that other film." Bonus points for the screwballl-comedy element of the lead usually being on the verge of blowing up at people but never quite doing it. As a New York movie, a kitchen movie, a career crossroads movie, an ethnic movie, and a how-do-I-reconcile-with-my-stubborn-father-while-remaining-true-to-myself? movie, there's not much new, but it's all these things and it fits together pretty well on a modest budget and that ain't a bad place to take your date. Bonus: no rapes or ritualistic torture! (Oh, did I give away too much?)
  22. Maybe Brown, Satin, and Hefner won't become everyday players, ... Damn, I had Hefner totally penciled in.
  23. Craig Kimbrel has three blown saves this year. Here's one.
  24. Dyksta wins Bingo PotY before the game, hits the go-ahead homer during the game, and wins Eastern League PotY after the game. This is a good day. There's a clip in that article also noting that Bingo manager Pedro Lopez has been named the Eastern League MotY. Juan Lagares, meanwhile wins ESPN's Defensive Player of the Month. Raise your hand if you know there was a DPotM award, ESPN or otherwise.
